Прийменники
Прийменники в англійській мові виражають різні відношення між словами у реченні чи словосполученні. Прийменники, як правило, багатозначні, внаслідок чого одному й тому самому прийменники англійської мови відповідає кілька українських і навпаки. На відміну від українського, в англійській мові прийменник може стояти не лише перед словом, до якого відноситься, а й у кінці речення, наприклад, у спеціальних запитаннях він стоїть у кінці речення:
Where are you going from?
Whom are you talking about?
В означальних підрядних реченнях зі сполучними займенниками which, whom, that, прийменник ставиться після дієслова, але може стояти й перед займенником:
The house which he lives in is situated in this street.
В інфінітивних зворотах, що виконують функцію означення, прийменник ставиться в кінці:
He had no pencil to write with.
В англійській мові прийменники підрозділяються на прийменники місця, напрямку і часу.

Сполучники

Сполучники вживаються для зв’язку членів речення і цілих речень у складних реченнях. Вони поділяються на прості (and, but, or, if…), похідні(unless, however), складні (therefore, however, nevertheless) та складені(as soon as, in order to, as well as). Деякі складені сполучники називаються парними, тому що вони складаються з двох частин (both…..and, either….or, neither…..nor).
I’ll ring you up as soon as I receive your letter.
I know not only him but also his sister.
Both this and that exercise will be done in an hour.
Розрізняють сполучники сурядності та підрядності. Сполучники сурядності поєднують однорідні члени речення та частини складносурядного речення. Сполучники підрядності поєднують головну та підрядну частини складнопідрядного речення.
