Organized Crime

In the 1800s, many immigrants fled to America seeking a better life. Manypeople considered the industrial revolution a new start and hoped to become rich in the United States.

However, these new Americans found life was not easy. Some found a harder life in America than they expected. The lack of money and good job, language and cultural barriers made it difficult for them to adjust to their new home. All these reasons led to the formation of gangs, which tried to protect themselves from harm and prejudice. Nevertheless, later they became real criminal units dealing with narcotics and gun trafficking.

In American history, organized crime made its debut in the 1920s during the period of alcohol prohibition. It supplied the demand for illegal alcohol and encouraged yet another wave of crime. “Al” Capone is possibly the best-known of all American gangsters. He got control over a large part of illegal liquor market in Chicago and the Middle East and was responsible for many killings.

Nowadays crime syndicates govern the international crime community acrossthe globe.
