Ход урока.

I. Оргмомент ( 5-10 мин. )

T: Good morning, children! I am glad to see you. Sit down, please! I’m sure everybody is all right! Let’s start with the repetition of Present Simple and Present Continuous.

(вспоминаем образование этих времен и их отличия: наречия частотности и т.п.)

T: Well! Let’s check your knowledge! There are 3 sentences on the blackboard! You should write these sentences on your pieces of paper in Present Simple OR Present Continuous! You have 5-7 minutes. Let’s go!

1) Моя мама читает книгу сейчас.

2) По вечерам папа смотрит телевизор.

3) Обычно я делают утреннюю зарядку.

T: Have you finished?

P: Yes!

T: Very well! Hand your works in!

 

II. Основной этап урока

Activity 1. ( 15 мин )

T: And now let’s check your homework! Put away your pieces of paper and we see how you remember this lexis. I say words from 1st column, you say suitable word from 2nd column. Let’s go! (W.b. p.5, ex 1)

Teacher: Pupils:

T: And now you should say the correct place. (W.b. p.5, ex.3)

Teacher: Pupils:
                              exercise there.                               skate there.                               play video games there. You can                go on rides there.                               go bowling there.                               shop there.                               swim there                               play sports there. - a gym - an ice rink - a games arcade - an amusement park - a bowling alley - a shopping center - a water park - a sports center

T: Well done! You are nice students! And now I give you 1 minute to remember the paragraphs (S.b. p.10) that you should retell. Some of you told them last lessen. Lister to your classmates very attentively and then you should try to correct the mistakes. The total score is 5!

T: Are you ready? Let’s check!

T: How many scores does she/he get?

Activity 2. – Lexis ( 7 - 10 мин. )

T: So pupils, now we are going to start the new topic “Survival.”. Open your books (p.14). What is the meaning of the word “survival”? Does anybody know?

P: It’s a process, when person has to live despite difficulties or dangers.

T: Great! You are right! And now do ex.1 p.14. You should listen and repeat. Besides, think how you can translate these words into Russian language.

T: So, let’s check!

Pupil 1: Pupil 2:
1. get stuck in mud; 2. get stung by bugs; 3. meet dangerous animals; 4. get caught in a flash flood; 5. get a snake bite; 6. get lost; - застрять в грязи; - быть укушенным насекомым; - встретить опасных животных; - попасть в наводнение; - быть укушенным змеей; - заблудиться;

 

T: Good for you children! You can see words in the box on the page 14. I’m trying to explain these words now and you should understand them.

1. survive – to manage not to die;

2. swamp – large area of wet ground;

3. escape – to get away;

4. get into trouble – find yourself in difficulties;

5. swallow – to absorb as if to eat;

6. fall (into) – to move down;

7. panic – to feel afraid;

8. pull (in) –to use force to make smth move towards you;

9. lie flat – to be in a horizontal position against smth;

10. crawl (out) – to move slowly out on hands and knees;

11. bubble – small ball of air in water

12. run away – to move away from smth;

 

Activity 3. – Listening, Reading and Speaking ( 10-15 мин. )

T: Well! You can see the text on the page 14. You should listen to it attentively. Find out what dangers can be in the Florida Everglades and how we can survive them! (S.b. p.14, ex.2(a))

T: So pupils! Let’s discuss the problem of survival!

Pupils:

Dangers: Staying safe:
1. mud bogs can swallow a car or person;   2. mosquitoes, scorpions, poisonous, spiders and snakes; 3. flash flood; 4. alligators; - pull each leg out slowly, lie flat and crawl out carefully; - look where you walk, weak long trousers, boots and insect repellent; - climb up a cliff or tree at the highest point - run away very fast;

 

T: Well done! So, there is the ex. 2(b) on the page 15. You should read this text again and complete the sentences. I give you 1-2 minutes.

T: Have you finished?

P: Yes!

T: Great! Let’s check!

Pupils:
1...large and most beautiful national park; 2... must pull each leg out leg slowly, then lie flat and crawl out carefully; 3... very dangerous; 4...look where you walk, weak long trousers, strong boots and insect repellent; 5...96 kmph; 6... climb up a cliff or tree at the highest place you can; 7...move; 8...turn quickly;

T: Well done! The next task is ex.2(c) p. 15. You should give to the paragraphs their headings. But one of them is extra. You have 1 minute and then we will check/

T: Are you ready?

P: Yes!

T:   Very well! Let’s start!

P:  1- E; 2 – B; 3 –D; 4 – A; C (Better by car) is extra.

 

Activity 4. Mini-pause ( 5-7 мин )

T: Good for you! And now you have ф rest! Let’s check your dialogs (p.13)! I give you 1 minute and then we will be listen to your dialogs.

T: Great! I like your stories very much!

 

Activity 5. Grammar ( 30 мин )

T: Does anybody know what is the meaning of modal verb?

P: It’s an attitude to the action or reality.

T: You are right! Now I show you the presentation. First modal verb is can. We use this verb when we want to show ability or possibility to do smth, to give permission and to ask permission. (1st slide). The next modal verb is could (4th slide). This verb is similar with the modal verb can, but could is more politely than can. The verb can’t is used to show inability or prohibition (5th slide). The next modal verb is must. It’s used to show duty or obligation and to make the decision by oneself (6th slide). When we want to show necessity we use the modal verb have to/has to, but when we want to show lack of necessity we use the modal verb don’t/doesn’t have to (8th slide). The other modal verbs are should (shouldn’t)/ought to (ought not to). We use these verbs to give an advice, but when we want to give some recommendations, we use only should (shouldn’t).

T: And now open your book on the page 15 and do ex.5. First of all, you should read the examples in the box and try to understand in which situation you should use these modal verbs. And then rewrite the sentences using the correct modal verb. You have 5 minute to do this exercise.

T: Have you finished?

P: Yes!

T: Very well! Let’s check!

    Pupils: 2. Can/ could I use your insect repellent? 3. You can see alligators there. 4. We can put up our tent here. 5. Alligators can’t move fast in circle. 6. You can get lost there.  

T: Well done! And the last task is ex.6 on the page 15. You should choose the correct modal verb. I give you 3 minutes. Let’s go!

T: Time is over!

P: We are ready.

T: Great! Let’s check and discuss why you choose the modal verb.

Pupils:
1. You must drive slowly through the park. 2. You mustn’t litter. Take your garbage with you! 3. You have to keep your dog on a leash. 4. You can’t fish everywhere – only in certain areas. 5. You mustn’t feed the animals. It’s forbidden.
