An introductory part

The text I have just read was written by Alex Culshaw and presented in the net in January, 2009.

The title is rather long and it states both a common fact and the global problem which computer users are facing today. Namely, it deals with the pluses and minuses of USB Flash Drives.

Basic contents

First, the author briefly considers the wide application and progress of USB Flash Drives.

Then he focuses on the main idea of the text, that is the risks associated with USB Flash Drives. He presents four risks one by one.

The first risk on his list is what he calls ‘a loss of productivity’. The author explains risks that result from bringing to the workplace unsuitable software and downloading illegal materials. He speaks about things that could damage the company’s reputation and potentially cause spyware or adware infections.

The risk the author puts in the second place is the risk of workers bringing viruses, trojans, malware or adware into the workplace on USB Flash Drives.

The author believes that the theft of confidential data or “data leakage” is the third and most serious risk. He explains that this can cause the possibility of negative press coverage, and even subject to legal action.

Finally, the fourth risk dealing with accidental loss of confidential information due to someone’s carelessness is given by the author as quite possible.

But the concluding part of the text is the most positive and optimistic because it offers the solution to the problem of data leakage. Here we are informed about a new USB Flash Drive designed recently. The author praises it unique possibilities the and protection options in particular.

Conclusion

I find this text very practical and useful. It informs us about risks people and companies can really have in our everyday life and gives recommendations how to avoid them.
