Поисковый характер этой статьи очевиден, она явля­ется резким отказом от моего прежнего догматического пренебрежения к исследованиям случаев и демонстри­рует другую крайность. Хотя эта попытка не окажет существенного влияния на мое же собственное учение о квазиэкспериментальных планах и методах исследова­ния, в настоящий момент положения этой статьи ка­жутся мне правильными. В конце концов, человек в своих обыденных делах является весьма компетентным, и качественное обыденное знание не замещается зна­нием количественным. Скорее напротив, количественное знание должно доверять качественному, в том числе и обычному восприятию, и основываться на нем (Campbell [5]). Мы, методологи, должны прийти к приклад­ной эпистемологии, объединяющей в одно целое и то и другое.
