What advice will you give to your British friend who wants to take part in “the Night of Museums” in Belarus?

I would recommend to visit the National Art Museum. I would also recommend to visit Nesvizh Castle and have a trip into a history of  Radziwill.

№7 Art 1. Tell me what forms of art you enjoy most?

There are many different art forms: Paintings, Drawings, Sculptures, Photography. Architecture, Fashion Design, Wood Crafts, Interior Design. dance, music, opera, films, theater, drama, magic shows and stand up comedies. Literature, Poetry, Prose and Drama.

I like music. Music is fantastic! Every genre is unique. Listening to music, we have different emotions. Classical music is relaxing, rock is energetic, rap tells about life. Music is very important. There are different music styles: rock, hard rock, heavy metal, techno, pap, pop, jazz, country music. But my favourite is ….. It sounds good and fills me with energy.

2. Are there any family traditions that you follow? Yes, there are. We have family traditions, but not many. We usually celebrate family holidays together and have dinner together and chat about the events of the day. In summer we have a rest together (go to the sea, lake or river; go to the forest to pick berries and mushrooms; travel to different countries; do gardening and repairs about the house).

3. What will you ask a British teenager about his/her extended family? Have you got any cousins? What are their names? How old is your uncle?

4. Give a piece of advice on how to have a close and happy family.  I would recommend respect their family members,  talk  their problems together and keep their family traditions.

№11, 12  Mass media 1. Which of these do people in your family prefer: TV, newspapers, radio. Mass media are very important today. There are newspapers, magazines, radio, television and the Internet.

As for my family, my mum likes watching TV: lifestyle programmes, talk shows, soaps, drama and sitcoms. My dad prefers the news and sports programmes. Sometimes he reads newspapers. I neither watch TV. To my mind, television, radio and newspapers are becoming less and less popular. But I can’t live without my mobile phone and the Internet. I use them every day to come in touch with my friends or to get information. sometimes I watch music programmes or sporting events like football. I don’t read newspapers.  I watch the news on the Internet. Sometimes I enjoy reading magazines or cheaper tabloids.

2. Do you think all means of communication will exist in the future? Why (not)? I think people will use  the Internet and the mobile phones in the future. newspapers and radio are not popular. Probably they will be transformed into electronic versions on the Internet. We’ll live and we’ll see.

3. What questions will you ask a photojournalist about his/her work?           Where do you get information from?

Do you like your work? Is it boring to live without photos?

4. Give me a piece of advice on how to decide if the information on the Internet is reliable or not. The information on the Internet is not always reliable. Anyone can post anything. Some web sites are old and the information found there is out of date. I recommend to compare information.

№8, 19  Future career 1. What do you want to do in future? Choosing a career is probably one of the most difficult things in the world. If you choose the wrong career, you end up in a job which you hate. Of course, I want a well-paid job, but I also want to enjoy my profession. In my opinion, a job should be interesting and socially important. I don’t want to have a routine job, which brings boredom and kills motivations and development. I want a creative job. I would like to become a builder. This job suits my interests and I think I am suitable for this job. I hope I’ll be successful in my future job.

2. Is there any kind of job you would never choose? Why?   I wouldn’t like to be a teacher  because this job involves working long hours and a lot of paperwork.

3. What questions do you expect from your future employer at a job interview?     What is your qualification?

Do you have a higher education? Do I like to travel on business? Do you know a foreign language?

4. Give me some advice on what I need to think about when choosing a job. In my opinion, a job should be interesting and socially important.

№10, 23 Youth and Society 1. What social issues are important for young people nowadays?  The main problem of youth today is the generation gap between them and their elders. Young people want to be independent. One of the biggest problems is spending of free time. There are a lot of useful activities: reading, going out with friends, having hobbies, trying new recipes, going to the cinema, theatre, a health club or gym. But some people waste a lot of time on the computer. Тhey could spend it doing something useful. Another problem is how to earn money. Young people often need more money for food, clothes, books and magazines, school things, beauty products, cinema, DVDs, concerts, birthday and holiday presents, gadgets. They try to earn extra money but it`s hard to find a job. There are some more problems: education, friendship, health, smoking, using drugs, alcohol addiction, street crime, violence etc.

2. Are you a member of any social youth organization? Yes, I am. I am a member of BRSM. We are offered different activities: camping, sporting events and visiting memorials; outdoor activities and sports, including football, running, swimming and hockey; concerts and competitions, charity and volunteering. No, I am not. But I`d like to join BRSM. They offer different activities… 3. Ask me about the activities of UNISEF in Minsk. 1. What are the aims of UNISEF? 2. Does the Youth Parliament work in Minsk?

4. What youth organizations will you recommend young people to join?      I`d recommend to join BRSM. 

 The aims of this organization are: to promote patriotism and moral values

Belarus has a highly-developed industry.  The main industries are metal-cutting machine tools, tractors, trucks, motorcycles, bicycles, televisions, radios, refrigerators.  Agriculture specializes (спэшилайзис) in milk and meat production. The main cultures here are potatoes, flax, grain, herbs and vegetables.  The major trading partners of Belarus are: Russia, Netherlands, Ukraine, Germany, Latvia, China, Poland, Italy, Lithuania, Brazil, Iran, Vietnam, Syria, Qatar, Egypt, UAE. Different plants produce goods for export to other countries: “Minsk Tractor Works”, “Belarusian Autoworks” (BELAZ), “Naftan” in Novopolotsk, “Amkodor” in Minsk, “Grodno Mechanical Plant” and others. Belarus also imports mineral products, machinery and equipment, chemicals, foodstuffs, metals.

2. Do you know any International events that take place in Belarus? Our country is famous for organizing international festivals. The most popular are: Slavyanski Bazaar in Vitebsk; The Minsk International Film Festival “Listapad”; The International  Festival “Belaya Vezha”, The International Children`s Art Festival “Golden Bee”.

3. You are going to travel to Britain as an exchange student. Ask questions about the exchange programme.    How much does it cost?  How can I contact my tutor?

4. What can you advise your British friend who wants to learn the Russian/Belarusian language?    I would recommend to visit  concerts, film shows and performances, watch Belarusian TV programmes, read books.

Typical British people are very polite and serious, they don’t use body language. They love gardening and their parks are always clean. They love their pets more than other people. They fond of sports. They talk about the weather because it changes so often. They eat a big breakfast in the morning and drink tea a lot. The English are a nation of stay-at-homes. Тhey drive on the left, they don’t use kms but miles, they don’t use kilos but pounds.

2. Is it true that Belarusians eat potatoes at all meals? All Belarusians like potato which is called "the second bread".

3. What questions will you ask a British friend to find out his/her opinion about our country? Do you like Belarusian national food? What places have you seen? What are Belarusian people like?

4. Your British friend wants to discover Belarusian cuisine. What advice will you give him/her? I would recommend traditional draniki and koldyny. They are famous Belarusian dishes.

№15 Outstanding people 1. Tell me about some outstanding people who changed our world.         There are many famous people who changed our world. Bill Gates created Microsoft in 1977. Albert Einstein was the greatest physicists. William Shakespeare – a famous English writer. There are many famous people in Belarus too: scientists, writers and poets, sportsmen and artists, heroes of war. I'd like to tell you about Efrosinya Polotskaya - a princess in Polotsk in the 12th century. She was a highly educated person of that period. At the age of 12 she refused to marry and entered the Convent. She opened schools and hospitals. She wrote books by hand. She founded the Spass-Efrosinya church in Polotsk.   2. Do you know anyone who is a Noble prize winner?   Yes, I do. In 2015 Svetlana Alexievich, the Belarusian journalist and writer, got the Nobel Prize in Literature.   3. What questions will you ask that person? Do you like science? Is it easy to be a scientist? What do you like doing in your free time? 4. My son wants to become a successful businessmen in the future. What advice will you give him?     I’d recommend him to be hard-working.

№16, 25 Tourism 1. How do you prefer to travel? Tourism is very popular nowadays. There are a lot of means of travelling: by sea, by plane, by car, by bus, by train, on foot. All means of travelling have their advantages and disadvantages.  As for me, I enjoy all kinds of travelling very much. I think it's more comfortable to travel by plane. When I travel by plane, I don't spend a lot of time going from one place to another, I like to fly. But I also like to travel by car. You don’t depend on the timetable. You needn’t carry heavy suitcases. You are free to stop and change the direction whenever you want.

2. Do you bring home souvenirs from your trips? Yes, I do. Each country has its souvenirs.

3. You are going on a trip around England. What questions will you ask your British friends? What are the main London`s attractions? What do you recommend to visit? How will I get to St. Paul`s Cathedral? 

4. Your Belarusian friend to spend his/her summer vocation in Great Britain. Give him/her a piece of advice on how to organize the trip. I would recommend to visit Scotland`s Loch Ness; the Tower Bridge, the Tower of London, Westminster Palace, the Houses of Parliament with Big Ben, the largest clock of England.
