The Earth is being filled with waste material such as plastic bags and other rubbish. Is this really happening? What are some solutions to this problem?

Пример эссе:

We cannot deny the fact that the issue of rubbish is of utmost importance in the world at the start of the 21 century. This is because it embraces every aspect of our existence and we should have a clear understanding of how waste materials affect the environment. In the following paragraphs, I will show the key methods of treating this problem.

Отвечаем на вопрос: Is this really happening?

To begin with, the amounts of rubbish produced every day all around the world are astonishing. We see that many things that we throw off pollute the air, the water and the soil. For example, unlike organic rubbish, glass and plastics are what biodegrades for a much longer period of time (years and even decades) due to their structure and chemical compounds.

Отвечаем на вопрос: What are some solutions to this problem?

To solve this burning problem, we can employ a number of strategies that can help reduce the volumes of wastes or process them in a safe way. One solution is to sort the rubbish and then recycle it in order to re-use these materials afterwards – paper and plastics are well-known items that can be treated this way. Another important aspect in rectifying this issue is to invest more in creating modern technologies to produce more eco-friendly materials that will subsequently reduce the harm they may cause to the nature – one example is bio-fuel that would save the natural resources and have minimal effect on the air.

Заключение – подчеркиваем свои ответы на поставленные в теме два вопроса:

To conclude, rubbish is becoming a growing global concern and the mankind has to address it immediately as it can have detrimental effects on our habitats. Among the resolutions I can see the intense recycling process and the invention of new materials that would be environmentally safer.

Waste/Rubbish

· The amount of waste that we produce has increased

· This problem is a result of our consumer culture

· Products are not made to last

· If something breaks, we throw it away and buy a new one

· Advertisers encourage to buy the newest fashions

· Packaging is an important part of selling

· Most foods are sold in non-biodegradable plastics packaging

· The amount of household waste is growing

· This waste ends up in landfill sites

Litter

· People do not think about the consequences of dropping rubbish

· They assume that somebody is paid to clean the street

· Plastic packaging does not break down easily

· Most of the litter seen on streets is fast food packaging

The trend of increased consumer goods production is damaging the natural environment.

One can hardly deny that the ever growing production of consumer goods nowadays causes the adverse effect on environment.

Primarily, there are several causes for the increase in consumer goods production and subsequent negative influence on the environment. Among those is, without a doubt, the growing global population that requires more goods and amenities than before, and this in its turn leads to the exacerbating ecological damage in the form of air, soil and water pollution from fossil fuels and rubbish. Another key factor in this situation is the moral dilemma in production industry between being a source of profit for their owners and acting as an employer for millions of people around the world, which would hardly let the industry decelerate production.

In this situation, the potential ways to solve this problem are seen in the following. Firstly, both governments and businesses should invest in creating advanced production technologies that would be more environmentally friendly and shift from the heavy dependence on fossil fuels. One more obvious solution is recycling that is able to substantially reduce the amount of rubbish and wastes the world over and nurture caring attitudes in consumers and manufacturers towards the nature.

All things considered, the problem of the growing consumer goods production is mainly caused by the increased demand from the rapidly rising global population. To address this issue, the society should rely on enhancing ‘green’ production technologies and recycling in order to alleviate the burden on the environment.

consumers have very little awareness about the negative impacts that the excessive amounts of product packaging потребители очень мало осведомлены о негативных последствиях чрезмерного количества упаковки продукта

businesses use practical packaging materials to attract consumers to buy their products. The businesses should take responsibility not only for the quality of its products but also to how their products, including their packaging, affect the environment.

companies should not use so much packaging

individuals also have a responsibility to protect the environment from further destruction and pollution by limiting their consumption of products that are packaged in non-eco-friendly packaging

non-eco-friendly packaging materials have toxins. They are harmful to human health.

А теперь несколько фраз из этого эссе, которые вы можете выучить и начать использовать в своей английской речи:

adverse effect on environment – негативное влияние на экологию

subsequent negative influence – последующее негативное влияние

in its turn – в свою очередь

decelerate production – сократить темпы производства (to decelerate – антоним для to accelerate)

shift from the heavy dependence – отойти от сильной зависимости

nurture caring attitudes in consumers and manufacturers towards the nature – воспитывать в потребителях и производителях бережное отношение к природе

alleviate the burden on the environment – смягчить нагрузку на окружающую среду
