The mass media, including television, radio and newspapers, have great influence in shaping people ideas. To what extent do you agree or disagree with this statement?

The undemable usefulness of the media in almost instantly providing information about events around the world is largely taken for a granted. But in ourdependence on mass media have a powerful influence in shaping our viwes. We have come to depend on them for information and entertainment.

Though few of us probably think about it our conceptions of, say, our elected officials spring from television images and newspaper stories. Most of us will never meet prime minister or presidents, but anyone who is regularly exposed to the media will have an opinion of them. When it is time to cast our vote, we will make our decision based on how the media portray the candidates. We are similarly swayed by coverage of wars. The media, representing the values of their owners, societies and governments, tend to report wars with a bias; which is the "good" side and which the "bad" is determined for us by reporters, editors and commentators, and sure enough the public begins to form opinions that reflect the coverage they see, hear and read in the major media. The media are also | influential in the way they facilitate the spread of culture and lifestyle. The so-called "global youth culture", in which one finds young people around the world displaying a common interest in music, clothing styles and films, is an example of the media's enormous sway in this regard. A popular figure such as Michael Jackson would never be so well known were it not for the media's extensive reach into every society on the globe. Thus I would argue that the mass media's influence is certainly great Indeed with technological advancements such as the Internet bringing even more forms of electronic media to our homes and workplaces, it is likely the media's influence will grow even stronger.

23. Childhood may certainly be fairly happy, but its greatest moments can be compared with the sheer joy. Some people think that a happy childhood is a myth. Speak on the problem of the school years using…

The moulded, conditioned, disciplined, repressed child – the unfree child. Adults take it for granted that a child should be taught to behave in such a way that the adults will has a quiet a life as possible. The usual argument against freedom for children are: life is hard, and we must train the children, if we allow them to do what they like, how will they ever be able to serve under a loss?

To impose anything by authority is wrong. Fear can be a terrible thing in a child’s life. And only late can flourish in the atmosphere of fear. The happiest homes are those in which the parents are friendly honest with their children without moralizing. Home plays many parts in the life of the growing child, it is the natural source of affection, the place where we can live with the sense of security. We must be on the child’s side.

The childhood spent with heartless, indifferent or quarrel some parents or in a broken home makes a child permanently embittered.

25 Your good acquaintance is utterly dissatisfied with her marriage. She is» inclined to divorce. Try to convince her that divorce is morally wrong. Use such argumentations:

  • divorce is not a proper way out of the situation;
  • any attempt to save the family should be justified;
  • it's children who become the first innocent victims of divorce;
  • the prospects of a one parent family are really gloomy.

An annual study in the UK by management consultants Grant Thornton, estimates the main causes of divorce based on surveys of matrimonial lawyers (see [6]). The main causes in 2004 (2003) were:

  • Extra-marital affairs - 27% (29%)
  • Family strains - 18% (11 %)
  • Emotional/physical abuse -17% (10%)
  • Mid-life crisis - 13% (not in 2003 survey),
  • Addictions, e.g. alcoholism and gambling - 6% (5%)
  • Workaholism - 6% (5%)

According to this survey, men engaged in extra-marital affairs in 75% (55%) of cases; women in 25% (45%). In cases of family strain, women's families were the primary source of strain in 78%, compared to 22% of men's families.

Emotional and physical abuse were more evenly split, with women affected in 60% and men in 40% of cases. In 70% of workaholisrh-related divorces it was men who were the cause, and 30% women. The 2004 survey found that 93% of divorce cases were petitioned by women, very few of which were contested.

53% of divorces were of marriages that had lasted 10 to 15 years, with 40% ending after 5 to 10 years. The first 5 years are relatively divorce-free, and if a marriage survives more than 20 years it is unlikely to end in divorce.

Regarding divorce settlements, as defined by this survey women obtained a better or considerably better settlement than men in 60% of cases. In 30% of cases the assets were split 50-50, and in only 10% of cases did men achieve better settlements (down from 24% the previous year). The 2004 report concluded that campaigns like that of Fathers 4 Justice must succeed in increasing the percentage of shared residence orders, in order for more equitable financial divisions to become the norm.

To prevent jurisdiction shopping you can only now bring proceedings in England and Wales if you are habitually resident there or have retained domicile in England and Wales. This applies to the whole of the EU. Therefore if you live in France but were married in England you should bring the proceedings in France.

Music and language are uniquely human. A world without either would be hard to imagine. They are aspects of our need to communicate. It could be said that, as is true of language, when the music «speaks» our emotions «listen».

To my mind, the purpose of music is to give pleasure. Listening to music can be an emotional experience or an intellectual exercise. If we succeed in blending the two we are on the road to gaining the ultimate pleasure from music.

Some suggest that language and logic are predominantly functions of the left side of the brain, while music is processed in the right side of the brain, which deals largely with feelings and emotions.

Music helps to connect words or ideas with emotions. Listening to a piece of fine music can be a beneficial and pleasurable experience. Yet, у person can get even more enjoyment out of playing a musical instrument or singing with a group of friends.
