Staying at a Hotel

As I'm a chief manager of the company I often go on business trips to visit our trade partner's manufacturing plants in London. When the plane lands at Heathrow airport I go through passport control and check my luggage at the Customs house. A representative of our Trade Delegation meets me at the airport and takes me to the Embassy Hotel. It's a comfortable Hotel in the centre of London near the Hyde Park. Prices for the rooms are reasonable and the hotel is usually full, so the rooms are reserved in advance.

It takes us about half an hour to get to the hotel. At the reception desk we address the receptionist and say that we have reserved accommodation for Mr. Petrov at the hotel. The receptionist checks the reservation and informs us that one single room with private bath is reserved for Mr. Petrov from this day. The room is on the third floor, number 301. We thank the receptionist and I fill in the following form:

Surname _____________________

First name ____________________

Date of birth __________________

Place of birth __________________

Occupation __________________

Address ____________________

Date of arrival ________________

Length of stay ________________

The receptionist thanks us and gives me the key to my room. He calls the porter and asks him to take me up to my room in the lift. The receptionist asks me not to miss breakfast served from 7.30 to 8.30. He also warns me that the hotel charges include breakfast and maid-service and I don't have to give any tips to the maids. The receptionist wishes me to enjoy my stay at the hotel.

Meals

The usual meals are breakfast, dinner and supper. For breakfast people usually have rolls, buttered toasts or bred, butter and cheese, coffee or tea. Some people like to have breakfast with porridge or omelette. For a change you can have a boiled egg or fried eggs with ham.

People generally have dinner at one-two o'clock. The businessmen often find it impossible to come home for dinner mainly because of traffic jam. So they go to a nearest canteen or a restaurant. For dinner people usually have soup or bouillon for the first course, meat or chicken, perhaps fish with potatoes and salad for the second course, followed by tea, coffee or fruit juice.

People usually have supper in the evening between 7 and 9 p.m. Supper is to be the smallest meal of the day. Going to sleep with a full stomach is harmful for our organism. People usually have sausages or ham with noodles, salad and plenty of fruit. One can also have a cup of tea with a piece of cake.

As for me, I get up early in the morning. Sometimes I drink cocoa in the morning for my breakfast, and usually I eat some bread and butter. I like sugar and milk in my coffee, but not in my tea. I don't like sweet tea. I drink tea with lemon.

I often buy fruit from the greengrocer's shop and usually have one or two pineapples, three or four oranges, apples, bananas, pears in the house.

When I have free time, I enjoy going to various restaurants, bars and nightclubs, where I can relax from countless life troubles. Besides, there is no need to cook meal. In such places of entertainment one can go with his family, or just with a friend of his.

On days off and to mark special occasions we are often invited out or invite people to our own home. At home we prepare food ourselves and in all other cases eat something that is on the menu of the canteen, cafe or restaurant or what is put before us by our hosts.
