A: In my country the library works very differently. We are not allowed to go to the shelves ourselves.We must write down the book title and give it to the librarian, and the librarian will go and get the books for us.

Good afternoon, Welcome to the monthly meeting of the Young Lawyers' Section on International Law. I'd like to introduce our speaker today, Mr. Jumanazar Sultanov, from Uzbekistan. Mr. Sultanov graduated from Tashkent State University in 1995 after studying mathematics and mechanics. He has also earned undergraduate and graduate degrees from the University of World Economy and Diplomacy with a concentration in international lzaw. Mr. Sultanov will speak to us about recent legal developments in Uzbekistan, including some of the technical matters related to the privatization of key government-owned industries. He will first make a short presentation, and then we will open up the discussion for your questions and comments.

Good evening, and thank you for coming to this reception. Tonight we are honoring Alice M.Dear, the U.S.Executive Director to the African Development Bank. The African Development Bank is a multilateral development finance institution affiliated with the World Bank Group and composed of 77 member countries. The African Development Bank is engaged in promoting economic and social progress on the African continent.
Among other things, the bank's main functions are to promote economic development and expand capital markets and investment in Africa. The U.S.Executive Director, Alice M.Dear, was appointed by President Clinton. She is responsible for promoting trade and investment between the United States and Africa. Please join me in welcoming the Executive Director.

A: I would like to introduce you to my friend, Azamat Fayzullaev, from Uzbekistan. Azamat received a law degree from the University of World Economy and Diplomacy in Tashkent, and he also received a Master of Laws degree in Comparative Legal Studies from The John Marshall Law School in Chicago. He is thinking of getting another LL.M. degree at the University of Indiana School of Law.
B: And I would like to introduce you to my friend, Ramunas Kazlauskas, from Lithuania. Ramunas received his law degree from the University of Vilnius, and he helped to develop a training program for Lithuanian lawyers in commercial law. He would like to study law at Valparaiso University School of Law.

Good afternoon. It is my great pleasure to introduce our speaker, Mr. Sergey Mikheev. Mr.Mikheev is from the Russian Federation, where he graduated from the Urals State University with a major in physics. He worked as an operator of a nuclear reactor for five years before deciding to return to school and study law at the University of Perm. After six years of law studies, he started work at a large commercial enterprise as a legal advisor and he practiced law at the same company for several years. He recently received a Muskie Fellowship to continue his legal education in the United States. Mr.Mikheev will speak to us about recent legal developments in Russia in the areas of international trade and intellectual property law. Please join me in welcoming Mr.Mikheev.

Good afternoon, and welcome to our special program on recent legal developments in Ihe former Soviet Union. Today we are honored to have four speakers, each from a different part of the former Soviet Union and each one an expert in recent legal developments in that part of the world.

I'll introduce each of them now and let them each say a few words before we open the floor to your questions. Our first speaker will be Mr. Hurshid Tadjiev, from Tashkent, Uzbekistan. MnTadjiev works with the Department of International Cooperation in the Uzbekistan Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Our second speaker is Ms.Vita Smidre, from Latvia. Ms.Smidre received her law degree from Latvia University and she has worked for many years in Riga in the areas of copyright and trademark law. Our third speaker will be Mr. Dmitry \brobyov, from Russia. Mr.Vbrobyov received a Bachelor of Laws degree from Moscow University and he currently works for an international law firm in Moscow. Our final speaker Mr.Oleg Zagnitko, is from Ukraine. MnZagnitko received his law degree from Donetsk University. He has worked in the Ukrainian National Academy of Sciences, where he drafted economic legislation. He has also studied legislative draftintg at Tulane University School of Law in New Orleans, Louisiana. As you can see, we are quite fortunate to have such a panel of international experts with us here tonight. Please join me in welcoming our speakers.
