The Far Eastern State Transport University

 

During its long history our University has made its way from a small educational institution to the major educational and scientific center. At present it is one of the best technical universities in the Russian Federation.

FESTU was originally established as the Khabarovsk Institute of Railway Engineers (KhabIIZhT) on September 8th, 1937. It was the first technical college in the Soviet Far East aimed at training of qualified personnel for the railroads of the East Siberian and Far Eastern regions of Russia.

September 1st 1939 – Khabarovsk Institute of Railway Engineers accepted first intake of students.

1993 – KhabIIZhT was reorganized in Far Eastern State Transport Academy (FESTA).

1997 – FESTA was promoted a rank of university and renamed into Far Eastern State Transport University (FESTU).

The University consists of nine institutes and five faculties in Khabarovsk, and has branch offices in Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk, Tynda, Svobodny, Ussuriysk and Neryungri.

It is very prestigious to study at our University. Our graduates work in such spheres as engineering, economy, transport etc.

Over 23,000 students are studying at FESTU today. The University provides comfortable environment for research work and studying. FESTU introduces new information technologies in teaching students and training engineering personnel, such as: distance learning, electronic textbooks, multimedia educational systems, video and audio conferencing and the possibility to deliver on-line lectures and consultations with students.

The University has a license of training specialists of the following levels of higher education: bachelors, masters and certified specialists.

The book fund of the university library is regularly updated and now numbers more than 1.2 million copies. The University has five comfortable hostels for students and graduate students.

Teaching staff of the University exceeds 700 people. The majority of the university teachers have scientific degrees and titles, including more than 100 doctors and professors. Leading scientists of the University have established scientific schools of their own. Science education at FESTU is a well-structured process. It is one of the best in the Russian Far East. The University has all necessary conditions for every student who has a will for research work.

Our University can offer various extracurricular activities. Creative students may join one of the artistic groups and develop their talents in music, visual arts etc. Those who are fond of sports activities can take full advantage of our sports equipment and facilities: seven gyms, track-and-field arena, swimming pool, climbing wall, stadium and grounds for outdoor sports.

International cooperation is essential for any modern educational institution. Our University cooperates with many fellow universities of Europe, Asia, Australia and North America. This cooperation includes interchange programs for teachers and students, experience sharing, joint scientific and research programs etc.

Currently there are more than 300 young people from China, South and North Korea, Vietnam, Japan, USA, and Armenia who take classes in Management, Logistics, Project Management, Telecommunication, Mechanical, Electrical, and Construction Engineering.

International students have equal rights with the Russians.
