Полет (the flight) длится долго, он может спать в удобном кресле и кушать на борту самолета (on board the plane).

TEXT B

AT THE AIRPORT

If people are going to another country, they prefer travelling by plane. Usually it doesn’t take long to get through all the formalities at the airport. When you arrive at the airport you go to the check-in counter where a clerk checks your ticket and luggage. Your suitcase goes to the pane, but you take your hand luggage with you. Then the clerk gives you a boarding card. The man at the security control checks hand luggage x-raying your bags by camera and the man at the passport control checks your passport.

Then you wait in the departure lounge till they call your flight and tell you which gate number to go to. Waiting for an announcement about your flight you can buy cheap things at the duty-free shop. Then you go through the departure gate to your plane. After that you get on the plane, the flight attendant shows your seat and sometime later your plane takes off.

Airports are not always named after the city they are in. There are two international airports in London: Heathrow and Gatwick. New York City also has two international airports: John F. Kennedy and La Guardia. Hundreds of planes land and take off and thousands of passengers get on and off planes at the airports every day. They fly to and from different countries. Larger airports with lots of international traffic have employees who speak languages besides English to help you, but smaller ones don't. If you go to U.S.A., your flight attendant gives you to the first U.S. form. It is called 1-94. After landing, you go to Immigration where the inspector checks you visa, complex your 1-94 and staples it to your passport.

Your next stop is the baggage claim area. If you lose something on the plane or can't find you baggage at the claim area, you should report it to your airline. If you lose something in the airport, you should go to the lost and found.

Then you go through Customs. If you have something to declare you go through the green channel. The customs officer may ask you «Have you got anything to declare? Is there anything liable to duty? Can I see your luggage, please? «You can bring a total of one guart of alcoholic beverages and one carton of cigarettes (200 cigarettes) into the U. S. duty-free. If you bring more, you have to pay duty. After that you are on your own. You can get to the centre of the city or to the big popular hotels by bus or take a taxi which is rather expensive. You also can rent a car.
