- The main principal parts of the ship are the hull, some decks and deck superstructure.
- The forward part of a ship is a bow.
- The after part of a ship is a stern (or aft).
- The part in between is midships.
- The forward raised part of the deck is a forecastle.
- The after raised part is the poop.
- There are usually 3 decks: the upper deck, tween deck and the lower deck.
- The hull is a body of a ship.
- There are the spaces that contain cargo holds, navigating bridge.
- The lowest parts of the hull are called a bottom and double bottom. It is the place, carrying fuel oil, fresh water and water ballast.
- There are special tanks for water and fuel in the holds.
- The engine room contains the vessel's propulsion plant.
- On the main deck there is superstructure with the accommodations for crew and passengers, mess rooms, galley and rooms for other needs.
- On deck there are cargo-handling facilities, such as cranes, winches, derricks.
- The navigating bridge has the wheel house, the control station, the chart room with navigating equipment (sextant, echo-sounders, logs, finders, satellite navigational equipment, etc.)
- On board a ship there are lifeboat, life buoy, life raft, life jacket, immersion suit, etc.
- To prove safety work we have goggles, gloves, overall, boots, helmet, earmuffs, filter mask, etc.
- As to fire-fighting equipment we use... fire axe, fire bucket, fire hose, fire extinguisher, breathing apparatus, protective suit, etc.
