Avoiding giving an answer

If you don’t mind, could we discuss that on another occasion?

XXIII. Make a presentation on the following topics:

1. Civil engineering – my future profession.

2. Modern building materials.

3. Types of residential buildings.

XXIV. Study the sample of an information request letter and answer the questions:

1. What type of courses does the applicant need?

2. Where will the courses be held?

3. What skills does the applicant want to improve?

4. What else is the applicant interested in finding out?

Dear Ms Stone,

I am writing with regard to the intensive English summer courses that you offer. I would be very grateful if you could send me some detailed information about the courses that will be held in your school in Brighton this summer, as well as what kind of accommodation you provide.

I am 18 years old and I have been learning English in Lithuania for five years now. My written English is quite good but I would like to improve my speaking skills. Do you have any courses for teenagers which offer a lot of speaking practice in small groups? As I am a student I would be interested in details of any discounts that are available, and the full price of the course including accommodation.

I look forward to receiving your reply.

Yours sincerely,

Zita Sheluite

XXV. You want to improve your conversation skills in English. You have seen the advertisement in a newspaper about summer English courses in Green Hill Institute in London. Write your letter to the secretary Andrew Simms and ask about length of courses, class size, number of lessons, facilities, accommodation, extra-curricular activities and cost.
