Предлог on употребляется с календарными датами и днями: недели: on Boxing Day, on Christmas Day, on the 21 of May, on the first of November

Предлог in используется с более длинными отрезками времени (месяцы, годы, времена года):
in September, in October, in the 21 century, in 1968, in the 1970s, in the early (late) 30s или: in the morning, in the afternoon, in half an hour, in a month.
at/on/in не употребляется перед словами next и last:

For / during
для описания продолжительности во времени, употребляется for + промежуток времени: for a week, for 3 hours, for 100 years.
Например:
He has lived in Paris for three years.
We have been waiting for you for two hours.
during + cуществительное употребляется чтобы сказать, когда происходит что-то (а не сколько времени): during the lesson, during the year, during the past day.

During / while
С этими предлогами употребляются такие конструкции как during + существительное, но while + подлежащее + сказуемое.
Например:
I fell in love with her during our first talk.
I fell in love while we were talking.
While часто употребляется в значении "одновременно" (в одно и то же время):
He cooked supper while she lulled the baby to sleep.
После while глагол ставится в настоящем времени, даже если действие относится к будущему:
Will you cook supper while she lulls the baby?
To
go to/come to/travel to (и т.д.) используется, когда речь идет о местах или событиях.

fly to Moscow walk to work drive to the airport
go to the bank go to a party go to a concert
be sent to prison be taken to hospital go to bed

go home/come home/get home и т.д. употребляются без предлога:
I'm tired. Let's go home. What time did you get home last night?
