The system of trade in Britain is diverse. There are a lot of shops, department stores, boutiques, markets.

Some shops are based on self-selection. The customer makes payment over the counter. More often there is a cash register near the display. With self-selection it is more convenient for the customer to make a quick choice from the displayed goods. Self-service shops are also very convenient. The customer carries a basket or pushes a trolley. After buying goods you pass through a check-out where you pay for all the purchase. This system is also used by larger self-service shops known as supermarkets.

There are many markets in Britain where you can buy anything you like: clothes, jewelry, ceramics, leather and other goods. London is one of the most lively shopping cities in the world. Many of the famous shops are in Regent Street and Oxford Street.

In small towns and villages there are many different kinds of shops. One of them is the so-called General Store. They show as much as possible in their windows. When you go in there is an even greater variety.
