The Kamno hillfort, 8 km north-west of Pskov, was the center of a little district, subordinated to Pskov. The investigated cultural layers contained remains of buildings and finds from the 8th–9th cc. settlement of craftsmen, involved in jewellery making and related to the final stage of the Long Barrow Culture. In the 2nd half of the 9th c. (archaeo-magnetic date 860±25 AD) the site was deserted. Its upper layers contain artifacts from the 13th–14th cc. In the 13th–16th cc. the pogost Kamno is repeatedly mentioned in the Pskov chronicles, land acts and inventories.

Nestor, a monk of Kiev Monastery of the Caves and a chronicle writer, wrote under the year of 903 in the first Russian chronicle «The Tale of Bygone Years» that Prince Igor grew up and was collecting tribute after the death of Oleg and people obeyed him, and a wife, named Olga was brought to him from Pskov.
Vibouty village became known as the legendary birthplace of Princess Olga, Prince Igor’s wife, who became a wise ruler of Rus after his death and stood at the origins of Russian statehood. In the vicinities of Vibouty there are many toponyms, connected to the name of Princess Olga. One of the roads led to Pskov via rapids in Vibouty. It enabled the enemy to approach Pskov without having to pass Izborsk. In case of military threat from the west Pskov people tried to protect the shallow part of the river in Vibouty and not let the enemy get across the Velikaya River.
On the eve of World War I The All-Russian Olga’s Society and The Committee on the Construction of the Church in Vibouty under the patronage of Queen Olga of the Hellenes, a member of Romanov dynasty, started a fund-raising campaign to put up a monument to Princess Olga in Pskov and to construct a St. Olga’s church in Vibouty. The church was built and consecrated. However in 1930-s it was demolished and today we can only see the remains of its foundation next to St.Ilijah’s Сhurch. In 1993 on the initiative of Olga’s Society, recreated in Pskov in 1991, a big granite boulder with a commemorative plaque «Vibouty – the birthplace of Princess Olga» was placed near St. Ilijah’s Сhurch. The same year Archbishop Evseviy conducted a prayer service to Princess Olga with water blessing near St.Ilijah’s church. The tradition of religious processions from Pskov to Vibouty was revived that year as well.
