Чтение и перевод текста “Our body”.

While our bodies are at rest, the large muscles are not in use. It is these large muscles which pull on our bodies and let us move as we want to. Hard work with our large muscles uses up energy quickly so that we come to feel hungry and want to eat.

In every step we take, what any of our muscles can do depends on what our other muscles are doing, and all this is possible only because our nerve cells are in control. And nerve cells can work together well only if the blood is serving them well. And the blood can serve them well only if the heart is in good order and if the lungs are taking in enough oxygen, and the heart and lungs, in turn, are dependent on the food and the stomach can give the blood stream and on the control the nervous system can keep up over all the organs of the body.

But in fact, the organization of our bodies is far more complex than this short and simple account can say. In everything we do, every breath we take, every motion we make, from the directing of our eyes as we look to the wording of a sentence as we write, billions of cells of every sort in our bodies are working together serving one another.

Прочитайте и переведите текст “ Spectator sports in America ” на русский язык.

Spectator sports in America are an obsession. Many people attend sporting events, listen to sports on the radio, and watch games on television. People of every age, race, and class buy sports magazines; the most widely sold is “Sports Illustrated”. Almost every major newspaper has a sports section.

Sports are often a topic of conversation. People talk about game scores, what happened during the game, or predictions about the strategy and success of specific team and players.

Children are encouraged to participate in sports at an early age. There are children's baseball, soccer, football, and basketball teams in almost every community. The rivalry between high schools goes right through the school year from football in September to track and field in June. Cheerleaders and bands lead the supporters in rooting for their home team.

Sports are important in collage. Students who show talent in a sport like tennis, track and field, swimming, football, or basketball can apply for sports scholarships.

Football is a very popular sport, followed by basketball and baseball. In general, football is played in the fall, basketball in winter, and early spring and baseball from early spring throughout early fall. The first American baseball match was in 1839 in New York but some people think that baseball comes from a much older game played in Europe for many years. Americans start playing baseball young. There are “leagues” which children of eight can join. The top players become big stars.

Americans love winter sports, and ice hockey is a great favourite. This game is very fast and can be dangerous. If you play ice hockey, remember to wear your helmet!

                                                           London Parks

Five of London’s nine royal parks are in the very heart of the capital. Among the most important parks that bring fresh life and colour to London are St. James’s Park, Green Park, Hyde Park and Kensington Gardens tha t stretch across the West End.

Kensington Gardens will provide runners, walkers and rollerbladers with wonderful sidewalks, soccer players with perfect fields. Everybody can find plenty of room for relaxed lounging there. The park also has several art galleries

on the grounds, a statue of Peter Pan, the Round Pond, elaborate sunken gardens.

Kensington Palace stands at the western end of Kensington Gardens and is perhaps the finest building in the Borough. Originally called Nottingham House, it passed into royal ownership in 1689 when it was acquired by William and Mary. It is still home to members of the Royal Family. The State Apartments and the Court Dress Collection are open to the public and highlights of a visit include the recently restored Kings Apartments and a magnificent collection of paintings. The Court Dress Collection includes a fabulous and very rare court mantua and the “exploded” gentleman’s outfit — everything from underclothes to fine lace cuffs and all part of the elaborate costume worn to Court by an 18th century gentleman. Gift shop & cafe.

Speaker’s Corner in the north-east corner of Hyde Park in London is by tradition an area where public speeches can be made by anyone who has anything they want to say. Speakers talk to the crowd from a soapbox — an improvised platform once made from wooden packing crates used for soap and other items.
