Полисиндетон / Многосоюзие ( Polysyndeton )

Полисиндетон, или многосоюзие, - это намеренное повторение служебных компонентов для связи между однородными членами предложения или отдельными последовательностями предложений различной длины. Например:

“It (the tent) is soaked and heavy, and it flogs about, and tumbles down on you, and clings round your head, and makes you mad” (Jerome);

Повторение союзов делает высказывание более ритмичным, до такой степени, что проза может казаться поэзией. Кроме того, в отличие от перечисления у полисиндетона не объединяющая функция, а разъединяющая: он делает перечисляемые предметы более заметными, например: “ And wherever you go or turn on streets, or subways, or buses, or railroad stations, or airports… or reading the newspaper, or the theatre program, or getting a cup of coffee, or looking up at the sky your friendly advertiser is at you with his product.”

Иногда многосоюзие используется для придания высказыванию торжественности, возможно, из-за определенной ассоциации со стилем Библии: “ And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat upon the house; and it fell; and great was the fall of it.” (Matthew)

Указанные два типа связи (асиндетон и полисиндетон) характерны для авторской речи. Третий тип - прикрепление (attachment, gap-sentence, leaning sentence, link), напротив, можно найти чаще всего в речи персонажей – диалогах и косвенной речи. В данном типе связи вторая часть высказывания отделена от первой точкой, хотя их семантические и грамматические связи остаются очень сильными. Вторая часть высказывания, являясь как бы запоздалым повествованием, часто соединяется с начальным высказыванием при помощи союза, и это даёт возможность выделить именно первую часть высказывания, например: «Prison is where she belongs. And my husband agrees one thousand per cent.” (Capote)

1. By the time he had got all the bottles and dishes and knives and forks and glasses and plates and spoons and things piled up on big trays, he was getting very hot, and red in the face, and annoyed. (Tolkien)
