TASK 2. Look at these sentences and decide if they are true or false. Comment on your answer.

Dear Vendor,

Enclosed please find the most current Vendor Shipping and Compliance Manual for CBAC RETAILERS. This manual, which was revised January 1, 2003, will be effective immediately. The goal of this manual is to facilitate the process of shipping from the vendor to our Property Warehouses and ultimately to our selling floor.

On November 22, 2002, CBAC RETAILERS employed the service of Bicktech Software to act as our third-party logistics provider, and assist us with our inbound transportation. Please see pages 24 & 27 for detailed instructions.

You will also find included a Vendor Information Sheet for you to update and return with the Response Form.

If you have any questions regarding this packet, please contact the appropriate CBAC Retailers Buyer designated on the contact list. Please fax the Response Form to (xxx) xxx-xxxx to the attention of Corp. Retail Accounting. Please send your Response Form by February 3. Failure to fax the Response Form does not preclude you from receiving a charge back for violations incurred. Thank you in advance for your cooperation.

Sincerely,

Dear Customer Service Rep:

I recently bought a pair of hiking shoes (item # 4507F) from your catalog. I’ve tried walking in them twice now and I am unhappy with their performance.

Your catalog states that the shoes “conform beautifully” to the foot. They aren’t doing so for me! These shoes have been very uncomfortable and each time I wore them, I’ve gotten blisters.

Per your 100% satisfaction guarantee, please send me a shipping label so that I can return the shoes to you at no cost to me. Since I do love your other products, I’d be happy if you gave me a credit towards a future purchase.

I look forward to receiving my shipping label sometime next week.

Dear Frank:

On December 13, we requested information on your chocolates, and your brochure was delivered to our office on December 16.

Thank you for the manner in which you expedited this information to us. You are to be commended. We do have one question regarding your new selection. What is the minimum purchase order for the truffles? I will be looking forward to your response.

Very truly yours,

Vince Sanders

Sanders Printing

Anytown, USA

Dear Mr. Sanders:

We are a small ad agency — new, but growing rapidly. And as our client roster expands, so has our printing needs — and we are looking to work with a reliable, quality printer in the area. You came highly recommended.

As you know, ad agencies, especially small ones, buy and resell a lot of services — especially media and printing — on behalf of their clients. Therefore we are looking to do business with you on a net 60-day credit basis.

Our business account is #00000 at State Bank. We pride ourselves on paying our vendors on time, and I have enclosed references from three of our vendors. Feel free to call them, and let me know if you need other references.

We have an immediate brochure project that will be ready to go to press within 3 weeks. If we can pay you net 60 days, we would like to make this our first project with you.

Please let me know immediately whether you can accommodate us — we have a lot of printing jobs coming up and need a printer we can rely on. And I believe that Sanders Printing can meet that need for us.

Sincerely,

Jill Raymond

Dear Mr. Shore:

Since you’re unable to pay back the full $1,000 you owe us at this time, we are offering you an affordable payment plan.

Just send us $50 a month for 20 months. You indicated that that the $50 is an affordable amount, and we in turn are willing to accept these monthly payments in lieu of receiving the entire $1,000 now.

A booklet of monthly payment coupons and packet of payment envelopes is enclosed. Just send one in with your $50 check on the first of each month. There will be no mark on your credit history, as long as you follow this procedure. And we are not charging interest on your account.

It is important for you to make your payment each and every month. If there is a problem, call us. Otherwise, we will presume your acceptance of this offer and expect your payment on the first.

Sincerely,

Kim Rogers

Dear Mr. Smith:

I am sure that you value having a good name with the investment community. I am surprised that you continue to send me payment notices, since I was offered a free trial of your newsletter.

I have repeatedly indicated that I have no interest in the Buying/Selling newsletter. I have repeatedly marked cancel on your invoices as your initial offer indicated. Enclosed, please find that original offer. As your offer indicates, “This will end the matter — with no cost to me.”

Wouldn’t [the editor] be embarrassed to learn that annoying collection letters were sent to individuals who took him at his word?

I expect this matter to end now.

Sincerely,

Kelly Jacobs
