Conclusion

Taking everything into consideration, we can say that there are different views on the national stereotypes. On the one hand, there is a strong belief that stereotypes exist and they contain a certain amount of truth. On the other hand,

it should be noted that stereotypes are dangerous because they may provoke racial prejudice.

We consider the stereotype to be like a myth about national character or a nationality. It was shown through the analysis of these myths and proved with the examples from different resources that the stereotypes of English national character exist and they help us penetrating the culture of the country.

To make sure that the stereotypes about the English character really exist and they reflect the image “coping’ the generalized knowledge about the Englishmen we conducted the survey among the students of Gymnasium 3. Students were involved into the activities which helped them to realize the high degree of stereotypes influence.

Thus, the aim of the research work has been reached. We have examined the stereotypes/myths and have made the conclusion whether they are true or false.

So, I would like to say that stereotypes are a part of human life. Stereotypes are certainly not reliable description of individual people but they still exist. Every person has its own character, but according to the person's belonging to some nation many traits of character are similar and these features may be explained as the national character.

But nevertheless the majority of stereotypes about English national character are far from true. Many of these myths became antiquated a long time ago. Only people that do not know Great Britain quite well use myths and stereotypes to describe this country.

We should respect the British heritage and traditions, although I believe we should not create the stereotypes, jump to conclusions, or put ideas into a box. Britain is a country of various traditions, different interests and individuals.

I believe that countries, like people, should try to understand each other better. Hopefully, someday we will be able to understand cricket – after all we do share with the British our wild passion for soccer! We might learn that tea is just as good as coffee. And the other way around!

And after all there is my own idea about typical Englishman in brief:

He is very friendly and always ready to help. May be he is silent, but at the same time intelligent and polite. He is possibly serious, but loves to joke and make fun. He is conservative and he greatly respects English traditions and history.

So, I am sure that the British are very nice people. I want to visit England and meet the people in reality in order to create the image of ‘my own Englishman’ but not ‘a typical’ one.
