At the end of the 5th term you will have to write a final test which will check the progress of your independent work. Besides, you are expected to do the exercises in the guides to the texts and tapes, practise the vocabulary units, keep the student’s language learning diary.

Procedure

Step 1. Working independently in September-December, you are supposed

1. to read the indicated information in the speech practise course book, listen to the tapes, watch the videos, accomplish independent tests and compile a file of useful information and vocabulary items;

2. to read the information about the main points of analysis of the short story and the short stories for independent reading, accomplish all necessary vocabulary work, sum up the stories and answer the After You Read questions for each short story.

NB!

As you study the materials, keep the student’s language learning diary in a notebook (See: What is a language learning diary?). The language learning diary is a document to help you learn the material more effectively and focus on your objectives, and a learning style that suits your needs. It helps you to think about how you learn; it is a summary of your language learning experience; it will help you keep any evidence of the work done as well as keep your progress. This will help you to get ready for the credit in term 6 and the exam in term 7.

For better time management and effective learning, we suggest a weekly step-by-step scheme of independent work.
