Наказовий спосіб дієслів

Наказовий спосіб дієслова в англійській мові (The Imperative) може виражати наказ або прохання, спонукання до дії, запрошення або заборону, пораду та інше.

Do the homework. – Роби домашнє завдання.

Щоб утворити наказовий спосіб у стверджувальному реченні, потрібно використати англійське дієслово у I формі без частки to (інфінітив без частки to):

Relax and take a rest. – Розслабся та відпочинь.

Заперечна форма наказового способу утворюється за допомогою додавання допоміжного дієслова do та частки not та інфінітива основного дієслова без частки to:

Do not do that! – Не роби цього!

Допоміжне дієслово do та частка not можуть зливатися і утворювати don’t:

Don’t go to the stadium! – Не йди до стадіону!

Слід зазначити, що наказовий спосіб дієслова для однини та множини в англійській мові є однаковим, тому особу або особи, на котрих направлена дія, можна зрозуміти лише з контексту розмови.

Крім того, не типовим вживання слів let та just у наказовому способі в англійській мові. Let перекладається як «нехай», «давай» та використовується з особовими займенниками him, her, it, them, us і має спонукальне значення. Just в наказовому способі може перекладатися як «тільки» та використовується для привертання уваги до когось або чогось:

Let him go! – Відпусти його!

Just look at that! – Тільки погляньте на це!

При використанні let з займенником us, ця форма скорочується до let’s:

Let’s go to the cinema! – Давайте підемо в кіно!
