holders. Undergraduate students do major in mechanical engineering but also attend classes in biology, chemistry and medicine during the course. Most of the biomedical engineering students do internship in research facilities to gain experience about producing new devices.

Biomedical engineering is an interdisciplinary field

resulting in a broad spectrum of disciplines that draw influence from various fields and sources. Due to the extreme diversity, it is not atypical for a biomedical engineer to focus on a particular aspect. There are many different taxonomic breakdowns of BME such as: bioelectrical and neural engineering, biomedical imaging and biomedical optics, biomaterials, biomechanics and biotransport, biomedical devices and instrumentation. So there are various areas for biomedical engineer specialization such as:

· bio-instrumentation which involves using various principles to produce devices for treatment and diagnosis of disease;

· bio-mechanics which involves applying various principles of mechanics to understand and replicate medical problems and systems like motion and range of fluid; artificial hearts, kidneys, and joints are examples of devices developed by biomechanical engineers.

· bio-materials that involves producing synthetic materials and natural living tissues for use in human body;

· clinical engineering which involves development of computer databases, medical equipment purchasing; acquisition and management of medical device inventory, supervising biomedical engineering technicians, ensuring that safety and regulatory issues are taken into consideration and serving as a hospital technological consultant;

· medical imaging that involves using techniques like MRI, sonography, etc.; for processing data, analysis and understanding physical processes to identify health issues like tumors, malformations, etc.;

· rehabilitation engineering which involves producing customized solutions to meet special need of individuals, it is aimed at enhancing capabilities and
