When a patient stays in a hospital, he/she is likely to be under the care of several doctors and nurses. They serve as primary care practitioners for any different kinds of patients, regardless of their age, gender or medical condition. Ward nurses provide a wide range of services. They observe patients and assess their responses to treatment. The nurses take the patients’ temperature, give them intramuscular, intradermal and intravenous injections, apply cups and give all the prescribed remedies in the doses indicated by the ward doctors, collect and deliver samples for labs. They conduct routine bedside care for patients. Each ward nurse monitor and report changes in patient condition. They record patient information in electronic health records.

A nurse takes care of people’s health in the daytime and at night. When patients are admitted to the hospital, first of all they are received by a nurse at the reception ward. Then a doctor conducts physical exams and diagnoses illnesses. After that he prescribes treatment and administers different procedures. Along with helping doctors, ward nurses provide a wide range of services. Usual duties of a ward nurses are: to perform basic health assessments with supervision, to take patients' temperature, blood pressure and respiration rate; to give medicines and different injections, to do the routine nursing tasks such as making beds and personal hygiene to patients confined to bed. They are responsible for monitoring and reporting changes in patient condition. They record patient information in electronic health records.

Many patients come to the hospital feeling very nervous. This is natural. Above all, it is vital to establish a friendly rapport with the patient. Show empathy to your patients and demonstrate that you care about them and their problems. The first step in conducting a physical exam is making sure that the patient is comfortable and that the examination environment is optimal.

Thelicensed practical nurses (LPN) perform doctor’s prescriptions. They observe patients and assess their responses to treatment. They administer drugs and injections. Injections can be given intravenously, intramuscularly, intradermally, or subcutaneously. They change dressings and care for wounds. They also perform the disinfection of used syringes, needles and collect and dispose of medical waste.

Some rules for nurses:

- read the order of the doctor before you give medicine, injection;

- establish a friendly relationship with the patient;

- explain to the patient the purpose and method of procedure, to clarify the awareness of the medicinal product, to obtain the consent;

- if you made a mistake in your work, tell the doctor about it at once.
