I like this quote on Media Literacy: Media Literacy is a 21st century approach to education. It provides a framework to access, analyze, evaluate, create and participate with messages in a variety of forms — from print to video to the Internet. Media literacy builds an understanding of the role of media in society as well as essential skills of inquiry and self-expression necessary for citizens of a democracy - From my own perspective, having an inquisitive (if even slightly cynical) outlook is a plus, while a degree I completed that included papers on Strategic analysis.
What is the difference between genres and production conventions? What do these have to do with media literacy?
Information literacy is an individual's ability to define his or her information need, find the information using a variety of sources, retrieve the information, evaluate the information, and put the information to use. This should not be confused with technology literacy - which would be an individual's ability to use technology and associated resources. However, technology is quite broad, as they are of various types and facets. Perhaps, you meant to contrast information literacy with computer literacy or digital literacy.
