А - Я очень рад, что я в этом ресторане.
Ж - О, да. Это очень непривычно видеть, как разные повара готовят блюда для посетителей.
Метрдотель (МТ) – Хотели бы вы сесть за стол, или расположиться у стойки и наблюдать как шеф-повары и их помощники готовят вам еду?
Б - Можно сделать и то и другое?
МТ - Что вы имеете в виду?
Б - Не могли бы мы сначала сесть за стол, посмотреть меню и заказать из него, а затем взять напитки и идти к стойке, чтобы наблюдать за процессом, а потом вернуться за стол и насладиться обедом?
МТ – Конечно!
М- Это очень интересное меню. Оно состоит из восьми разделов:
| A –I’m very glad to be in this restaurant. J - Oh, yeah. It is very unusually to see how different cooks prepare dishes for customers. Hostess (HS) – Would you like to sit to the table or to the counter and watch the chefs and their assistants cooking your food? B – Can we do both? HS – What do you mean? B – Could we first sit to the table, look through the menu, order from it, and then take drinks and go to the counter to watch the process, and after that return to the table and enjoy our dinner? HS - Absolutely. М – It is a very interesting menu. It consists of eight sections: · Meat Dishes · Fish and Sea Product Dishes · Specials · Salads · Soups · Desserts · Beverages · Alcoholic Drinks G - Was this lady a waitress? T - No, she wasn’t. She was a hostess. Her duty is to meet, to greet, and to seat the customers to the tables. All the rest will be done by a server. A waiter or a waitress will give you a menu, pour the water, take the order, and later serve the meal. G - It is good that a patron doesn’t have any duties in the restaurant. T - The patron does. The one has to order from the menu, pay the bill, and leave a tip which is usually ten percent of the bill. C - Don’t forget a server also sets and clears the table dealing with all those place settings, dinner, bread-and-butter, salad plates; saucers, and soup bowls. T - You forgot salad forks, dinner forks, steak knives, teaspoons, and soup spoons. J - When I was young, I worked as a busboy. Nobody saw me because I worked in the dish room. A - Well, let’s choose dishes out of the menu. K - I will take roast chicken and mashed potatoes, garlic bread, chef’s salad, soup of the day, cake, and decaf coffee. And what about you? E - I am going to order pancakes with maple syrup, pudding, and tea without sugar. H - I will get baked potato, grilled cheese sandwich, pumpkin or cherry pie, and lemonade or mineral water. E - And what about rice pilaf, waffles? H - Next time. C - Why don’t you look through the menu? K - I will take only water. C - Are you slimming? K - Yes, I am. C- What does your diet allow you? K - On Monday for breakfast, I must eat some boiled trout and fresh lettuce or cabbage and drink a glass of grape juice. On Tuesday for lunch, I must eat some catfish fried in olive or corn oil with pickled cucumbers and zucchini and drink a mug of strawberry drink. On Wednesday for dinner, I must eat baked salmon steak or halibut with steamed cauliflower or eggplants or artichokes and drink a bottle of plum and apricot juice with a lot of pulp. On Thursday for supper, I must eat salted and dried sole or carp or bass or Northern pike with fresh radishes or boiled beets and drink a cup of green or black hot or ice cold tea. On Friday for a snack, I must eat grilled seafood: lobsters, crabs, shrimps, scallops, and mussels with vegetable salad of celery, bell peppers, squash, turnips, and peas and drink cocktail of pear and pineapple juices. On Saturdays and Sundays, I don’t eat at all. I am usually very hungry and angry on week-ends. (A waitress comes to the table) W – Are you ready to order? A - Yes, we are. (After ordering) E - Now let’s go to the counter to see the magic of food cooking. B - I’d rather not watch this. Will you tell me what the chef’s doing right now and what he’s done? С - Sure, we will. The chef has chopped the onions and is sautéing them. E - He has sautéed the onions and is steaming the broccoli, and his assistant is grating the parmesan cheese. H - Now they are mixing the ingredients. E - And now they are baking everything at 350 degrees Fahrenheit or 177degrees Centigrade. C - By the way, I have never seen so many kitchen utensils at one place. What kind of pots are these? S - These are a steamer, a double boiler, a saucepan, a casserole dish and a pot. C- I understand what they use a ladle, a grater, and a can opener for, but I don’t get what are these things on the wall for. H - The can opener is to open cans. J - The grater is to grate cheese and vegetables. B - The plastic storage container is to storage (keep) products. J - The steamer is to steam vegetables. The frying pan is to fry on, and so on. I - While they are cooking, let’s ask Mr. Conner to give us a recipe of his favorite dish. DC – To cook the Christmas Turkey a la the Conners and to treat guests well, go to the supermarket, take a shopping cart or a shopping basket, and walk along the aisles. You will find and take a turkey in the meat and poultry section. Take a bag of large size onions, a container of garlic cloves, and a package of carrots in produce section. Take a box of crackers, a box of salt, and a jar of pepper in the baking products section. Get a carton of milk and a container of mayonnaise in the dairy section. Grab a loaf of brown or white bred in the baked goods section. Take a half a lb. of prunes, three oz. of raisins, and a can of stewed pineapples in the canned goods section. Then move to a beverages section and take five six-packs of soda. Finally, push your cart to the check stand, stay in the line, and pay to the checker. A bagger will pack your stuff into paper or plastic bags. As for the recipe, it is as easy as one, two, three: boil rice, chop vegetables, stuff the turkey with everything including mayonnaise, and bake at 350 degrees Fahrenheit for 2 hours. V - O.K. guys! The dinner is ready and served. Let’s enjoy our food now. |
