Unit 13. At the Travel Agent's

Objectives: In this unit students will:

- learn common phrases used for choosing a trip, buying and selling tickets;

- take part in role-plays to practice booking tickets and trips, making offers and requests.

Task 1. Read the phrases and practice saying them:

Choosing a trip:

Helping client to choose:

I’d like to go on a trip to Europe. What trip do you recommend? What is the weather there? What is it famous for? Are there any special customs? Is the hotel accommodation included in the trip price? Is the flight included?

Where would you like to go?

I recommend visiting ….

This place is famous for its castles/nature/cuisine/celebrations/ theatres.

What star hotel would you like to stay in?

The best place to go this season is ….

Next month is the best time to go there.

Choosing excursions:

Helping client to choose:

Do you have a full-day tour to Stonehenge? I would like to have some action-packed tour to ancient castles. I don’t want to be in a crowd, can I have an early or late-access tour? I would like to visit royal attractions: castles, residences, palaces.

This tour includes three excursions, you’ll need to pay extra if you want to visit something else.

Our guides work in two languages.

This place is off the beaten track.

Several days of olive picking will make this a trip of a lifetime.

In this 11-hour couch tour you can leave the city behind and enjoy nature.

Buying a ticket:

Travel agent:

Customer:

Are you travelling alone?

Will this be one way or return?

When would you like to depart?

When would you like to return?

Do you mind a stopover?

Would you like to have a direct flight?

Would you prefer economy, business or first class?

What time of day would you like to fly?

Do you have a preferred airline?

I will check the price and availability.

There are several seats still available.

I need a ticket to Athens, Greece. I would prefer Wednesday and would like to return next Tuesday. There will be two of us: one adult and a child. Is there a sleeper train from Paris to Rome? Can I get a student discount? Do I have to change trains? Do I have to bring my bags on the bus or the bus has a baggage compartment? Can I get a refund for an unused ticket? If I buy my ticket in advance, will it be cheaper?

Client making changes:

Travel agent approving changes:

I would like to change the flight date.

I want to depart two days later by the same flight.

How long do you think it will take you to sort this out?

What change would you like to make? Could you tell me the flight number and the date of flight please? Can I contact you later?
