Level 2

Time 20 min.

The Matryoshka Series Thursday, March 12, 7 PM Friday, March 13, 10 PM   Choreography - Helen Husak and Kate Stashko Performance - Kate Stashko Original Score - Bill Horist   The seed of this new piece was an obsession with Matryoshka dolls (eastern European nesting dolls) and the work of M.C. Escher. The doll within a doll is a form of mise en abyme, which literally means “placed in an abyss”, and it is an artistic representation of infinity, similar to a painting within a painting. These intricate dolls depict humanity and femininity on the surface, but inside they represent the abstract and overwhelming concept of infinity.   Blending the human and the mathematical, beauty and darkness, The Matryoshka Series walks a line between femininity and infinity. HYPER_ Friday, March 13, 7 PM Saturday, March 14, 8:30 PM   Performer / Creator- Isadora Olafson Music - Ghostigital;     At the intersection of performance, visual and digital arts, HYPER_ explores the limits of perception. By shifting the dimensionality of the live body in relationship to the immersive screen HYPER_, moves between 2D and 3D representations of corporeality. HYPER_ becomes a site for expanded choreography where virtual bodies, cyber dancers and the contemporary reinterpretation of everyday gestures converge. The performer’s physique is dissected and transformed, disappearing and merging with the stage and screen. HYPER_ deploys a deliberate combination of UV light, body paint, 3D glasses for the audience and large video projections.
Messages to an Audience Thursday, March 12 10 PM Saturday, March 14 2 PM   Choreographer / Performer - Naomi Brand; Music / Amplifier Machine - Goldmund   Messages to an Audience takes a metaphorical look at communication and the relationship between viewer and performer. Employing imagery, text and an economical movement language, it is a portrait of one woman’s earnest attempt to be understood and her scuffle with all that gets in the way between sender and receiver. With a lighthearted sincerity, the work touches on the dancer’s need to connect and the indirect pathway that leads to her point. The Contract   Wednesday, March 11 8 PM Thursday, March 12 8:30 PM   Producer / Writer / Director / Choreographer / Costumes - Nancy McAlear Performers - Richard Lee Hsi; Ainsley Hillyard; Vincent Forcier   The Contract explores themes of loneliness, isolation and the need for human connection. A man and a woman, two strangers, spend their evenings together locked up in an empty house. Together, they discover a new and different connection that will give them hope for the future. The Contract is a physical theatre piece, told through text, poetry, and dance.
