2. What is the subject of your thesis?

The subject of my thesis is the physicochemical properties and toxicity of snow cover on urbanized areas in the city of Vologda

3. Why have you chosen this subject of research?

I chose this subject because the contaminated snow from urban areas contains a large amount of polluting chemicals. In Vologda, the problem of disposal of contaminated snow is very relevant.

4. What problems are you going to touch on in your thesis?

In my research I am actively pursuing to reveal the relationship between traffic intensity and distance to the road and the level of snow pollution.

5. Is your research theoretical or practical?

My research is primarily of practical importance.

6. Do you know any of Russian or foreign scientists working on the same problem?

Yes, I have read articles whose authors investigated this problem and developed a land use model for their territory.

7. In what area / field do you think your results and your obtained data could be used?

My results can develop a snow disposal scheme in the city of Vologda. In addition, I hope that my results can be applied in the development of measures to reduce the negative impact on the environment.

8. Have you got any published articles?

Yes, the results of my research were published in collections of articles.

9. When and where did you publish your papers?

I presented the results of my research at conferences in 2017, 2018 and last year. Articles are published in conference proceedings.

First, let me introduce myself. My name is Ilia Pavlov. I am a post-graduate student at the department of Geoecology, Environmental Management and Environmental Safety. My scientific advisor is Assistant Professor Vyacheslav Makeev. I graduated from Vologda State University. I have a degree in Geoecology. I studied at the department of Geoecology and Engineering Geology. During my last year at university, I did my graduation paper in the area of geochemistry. I entitled it “Transformation of heavy metals from precipitation to the soil in Vologda”

My research work concerns atmosphere pollution. The subject of my study is climate factors of air pollution on urbanized areas in Vologda region. I have chosen this theme because I work at the Vologda center of Hydrometeorology and environmental monitoring and one of my tasks is to forecast the level of air pollution.

The aim is to reveal the relationship between levels of air pollutions and meteorological parameters. A very interesting task, which I am working at, is the construction of a regression model of general air pollution and concentrations of specific pollutants.

I am hoping to present a comprehensive assessment of the potential hazard of the observed levels of air pollution. In addition, I am planning to construct a model for predicting air pollution in Vologda and Cherepovets.

This work is really important from practical point of view because there is the need to enhance atmospheric air pollution forecasting schemes in industrial cities of the Vologda region.

A lot of material has been published on the subject of my research, but no such research has been done in my region.
