The United Kingdom (also called Great Britain) consists of four countries – England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. It has a population of approximately 56 million people and an area of about 240.640 square kilometers. London is a capital city. Britain is a member of the European Economic Community and its main trading partners are the EEC countries and North America. Britain’s main exports are cars, machinery, textiles and chemicals and its invisible exports include banking, insurance and tourism. Britain’s north Sea oil also makes it one of the world’s oil producers.

Ex. 3 С тех пор как Шейла начала работать в фирме Б OC произошло немало событий. Для многих из них важна лишь дата (Indefinite / Simple), для других – связь события и его влияние на современность, будущее развитие данной фирмы (Perfect). Раскройте скобки.

Ex. 4 При подготовке к собранию Фред делал пометки в блокноте. Запишите предложение на основе этих пометок в прошедшем простом неопределенном, рассказывая о прошлом вообще, а затем в настоящем завершенном, как о событиях, произошедших за отчетный годовой период

Для рассказа о прошлом воспользуйтесь следующими обстоятельствами времени: last May, 1 year ago, in 2002, in January, in 1999, last year, in 2000.

Ex.5 Расскажите о жизни Анны, используя сказуемые в завершенном действии и предлоги ‘before” и “after”. Например: Anne had passes her exams before she left school. She left school after she had passed her exams.

Anne passed her exams and then she left school. After that she went to secretarial college and then she worked in a bank. Later she lived in London and finally she moved to Manchester and got a job with Trausworld.

Ex. 6. Частое употребление сокращенных грамматических форм в английском языке может иногда привести в замешательство изучающих этот язык иностранцев. Давайте потренируемся. “Who’s” может означать как “who is”, так и “who has”, не говоря о том, что существует вопросительное местоимение «whose?» (чей?). Поставьте нужную форму в нужное место в предложении:
