Interviewing for Employment

No one enjoys being judged and rejected. A job interview is all about providing your qualifications and accomplishments to an employer.

Here are some handy tips on what to do before and during the interview:

- research the organization;

- identify 3 to 5 of your major selling points;

- imagine the kinds of questions you may be asked;

- prepare success stories;

- strive for a natural appearance;

- establish rapport with the interviewer;

- maintain eye contact;

- know your resume backwards;

- inquire about career paths;

- conclude positively.

C. Complex Subject. Study the following examples:

- She is said to know several foreign languages. – Говорят, что она знает несколько иностранных языков.

- He seems to know little about research work. – По-видимому, он мало что знает об исследовательской работе.

- All our efforts proved (to be) useless. – Все наши усилия оказались напрасны.

- They are likely to arrive in the evening. – Вероятно, они приедут вечером.

Identify Complex Subject in the following sentences and translate them into Russian:

1. This discovery is considered to be the result of a long and thorough investigation.

2. These phenomena are believed to be interdependent. 3. The expedition is reported to be moving north. 4. This man is said to be a good engineer. 5. He is said to be the richest man in the world. 6. Therefore they are not likely to succeed. 10. In the developed countries the automatization of industry is likely to have far-reaching social effects. 11. Science is certain to influence the solution of important political problems. 12. The losses inflicted by a progressive exhaustion of natural resources are not likely to decrease in the near future.

Identify Complex Object and Complex Subject in the following sentences:

1. The first sort of question is said to measure global well-being. 2. Each country was ordered to manufacture certain products. 3. The engine cost proved (to be) persuasive. 4. These post-war years of austerity and shortage turned out to be the golden age of the micro car across Europe. 5. European brands are quite likely to be faked in China. 6.
