St. Petersburg is served by two airports, Pulkhovo I (domestic) and Pulkhovo II (international), located just 5 kilometers (3 miles) араrt and 12 kilometers (7 miles) south of downtown St. Petersburg. The runways of the two Pulkhovos interconnect, so it's possible you сan land at Pulkhovo I and taxi over to Pulkhovo II. Pulkhovo II is small and well lit, with signs in Russian and English. From Pulkhovo 1, Municipal Bus 13 will take you to the Moskovskaya subway stop at the end of Nevsky Prospect; the stop at the airport is right outside the terminal. Tickets are sold on the bus, which runs every 40 minutes during the day and every 90 minutes at night. From Pulkhovo II, the service is less reliable and more inconvenient. If you have any luggage, the only realistic way to reach downtown St. Petersburg is by car. If you are travelling with a tour package, all transfers will have been arranged. Independent tourists are advised to make advance arrangements with their hotels for transfers from the airport. The airport is about a 40-minute ride from the city centre.

St. Petersburg has several train stations, the most important of which are Finlandsky Vokzal (Finland Station), for trains to Finland; Moskovsky Vokzal (Moscow Station), at Ploshchad Vostania, off Nevsky Prospect, for trains to Moscow and points east; Varshavsky Vokzal (Warsaw Station) for trains to the Baltic countries; and Vitebsk Vokzal (Vitebsk Station) for trains to Ukraine and points south. All the major train stations have a connecting subway stop, so they are easily reached by public transportation.

There are several trains daily from Moscow to St. Petersburg, the most popular of which is the Red Arrow, a night train that departs Moscow at 11:55 PM and arrives in St. Petersburg at 8:25 AM the next day. During the day travellers prefer the high-speed Avrora, which makes the trip in less than six hours. There are two trains daily to and from Helsinki; the trip takes about 6 hours.
