Nowadays people prefer to have more money than many friends. What do you think about it?

Let's talk about family. What can you tell us about your family? Do you get on well with your parents? What is your family for you?

OK,..., let's talk about family relationships.

First of all some words about my family and myself.

My name is... I’m 17 years old. I live in a small town of Malorita, Brest region. This year I’m finishing school and getting ready for my exams.

We are (2-3-4) in our family: my mother, my... and me.

My mother is (38 -39-40). She works as a... My father is...

We are a very united family. I get on well with my parents. My family is everything for me.

We have some family traditions. We celebrate birthdays of all members of the family. In summer we have barbeques and go to the seaside (to the forest, to the river, lake) together.

Do you agree that children should be brought up strictly? Why?

Yes, I agree thatchildren should be brought up strictly. Why? So that not to have problems in future – with alcohol, drugs, crime...

Imagine you are invited to spend a couple of days in your pen-friend's family in London. Ask him about their family holidays and traditions.

I think I’ll ask him the following questions:

1. The first q-n: Do you have family traditions?

2. The second q-n What is your favourite holiday?

3. The third q-n: How do you usually spend your family holidays?

Your close friend is hesitating if to accept her boyfriend’s proposal. She asks you for advice. What would you say?

I think I'll give her the following advice:

· If you love him, marry him and be happy!

5. Which is better: being an only child in the family or having a lot of brothers and sisters?
In my family there are two (three) children: my... and me. We get on well with each other and I’m quite happy with my family. Perhaps in future I’ll also have 2(3) children.

4. Let's talk about friendship

Let's talk about friendship. What's your best friend like?

I have many friends but my best friend is...We have been classmates since...

... is 16. She (he) has an oval face, a straight nose, thick hair, blue eyes and an attractive smile.

... is really charming and friendly. Whenever a friend is in trouble she (he) never fails to help.

She (he) is open-minded and interested in other people. I think... is easy to deal with and we have a lot in common: we are both interested in..., we are crazy about surfing the internet and we like good music. In general my friend is an interesting person.

She (he) is fond of modern pop and rock music. Her (his) favourite singers are...

She (he) enjoys walking along the streets or having a stroll in the park.

... Has a great sense of humour and I like to spend time with her(him).

It’s impossible to be depressed with her (him) around.

Can you rely on your best friend? Why (not)?

Yes, I can rely on my best friend. Because she (he) is an honest and reliable girl(boy).

What questions do you usually ask when you want to get acquainted with someone?

I think I’ll ask him the following questions:

· Hello! My name is... What’s your name?

· What music are you listening?

· What computer game are you playing!

What can you advise a teenager who has no friends?

I think I’ll give the following advice:

· Try to be open-minded and interested in other people.

Nowadays people prefer to have more money than many friends. What do you think about it?

There is a proverb in Russian: it’s better to have 100 friends than 100 roubles. I agree with it. Besides I think it is possible to have both much money and many friends. Why not?

5. Let's talk about studying at school

1. Let's talk aboutstudying at school. What school do you go to? At what age do Belarusian schoolchildren start and finish school? How long does a school year last? Do you take any exams?

OK,..., let's talk aboutstudying at school. So, my name is... and I’m a pupil of the 11th form of Malorita gymnasia. The gymnasia is a three-storied building – big, comfortable and quite modern.

On the ground floor there are several classrooms for junior pupils, workshops, a cloakroom, a canteen, a library and a headmaster’s office.

On the first and second floors there are classrooms for senior pupils, a teacher’s room and a gymnasium.

I go (went) to school five (six) days a week. Classes start at 8 o'clock in the morning and last till 2-3 p.m. We usually have (had) 6 or 7 lessons a day. We study(ied) a lot of different subjects: Russian, Belarusian, English, Russian and Belarusian literatures, History, Geography, Biology, Physics, Chemistry, Maths, Computer studying, PE etc. I like (d) History, Belarusian and Maths most of all. I usually receive (d) good marks in these subjects.

And I’d like to say a few words about Belarusian system of education. Belarusian schoolchildren start school at the age of 6 and finish it at the age of 17.

The school year lasts for 9 months: from the 1st of September till the 31st of May. The schoolchildren take exams after the 9th and the 11th forms.
