Care for Surgical and Oncological Patients

Surgical intervention has been the most effective treatment for oncology for a long time. That is why operations are the main type of treatment that is used in oncology. A medical professional who practices oncology is an oncologist.

Care for a patient with a surgical profile is one of the most important parts of medical activity. The main role and responsibility in providing care is given to the doctor and nurse.

Surgical care is divided into general and special. General surgical care consists of the organization of sanitary-hygienic and curative-protective regimens in the department. It includes:

• organization of cleaning of premises;

• provision of medicines, their proper dosage and application as prescribed by the doctor;

• organization of high-quality nutrition of the patient in accordance with the nature of the pathological process;

Special care is aimed at certain pathology of the patient.

Nursing care is aimed at the implementation of personal and clinical hygiene in the hospital, giving the patient food and drink, helping the patient to move and empty the bowels and urinary bladder. It also includes first aid during pathological conditions - vomiting, cough, breathing disorder, bleeding, etc.

Nursing care for cancer patients is not only the performance of hygienic and household procedures, control of medication, but also a great psychological work, requiring great patience.

The peculiarity of caring for patients with malignant neoplasms is the need for a special psychological approach. You cannot let a patient know the true diagnosis.

Regular weighing has great importance in observation of cancer patients as the weight loss is one of the signs of disease progression.

Regular measurement of body temperature allows to identify the reaction of the body to radiation therapy. Information about measuring body weight and temperature should be recorded in the medical history (case history) or on an outpatient card.

It is necessary to train the patient and relatives in hygiene.

The proper nutrition is also important.

In all cases, the main thing in caring for cancer patients is strict observance to the prescriptions of an oncologist and a benevolent treatment to the patient from others.
