I. Study the vocabulary of the Unit.

II. Practice the following sentence patterns. Translate them into Russian.

1. It's impossible! I can't leave my pet at the Customs.

III. Read the dialogue. Practice it in pairs. Trade roles and reproduce the dialogue in pairs.

C.O.: Are you travelling from Great Britain?

P.: Yes, sir.

C.O.: I guess you're a Londoner.

P.: No, not really. I live in Derbyshire on a small farm.

C.O.: Is this bird coming with you?

P.: Yes, it is.

C.O.: Have you got a vet certificate with you?

P.: Yes, here it is.

C.O.: I'm sorry, but it is not signed by a government vet.

P.: I don't think it is so important. It's just a pet bird. I'm sure it can't hurt anybody.

C.O.: Quite the contrary. Even a piece of fruit, a piece of sausage or one pet bird could be the means of introducing destructive pests or diseases into the country. I have to ask you to leave your pet here. I'll call the vet to check if this pet is free from diseases.

P.: It is so inconvenient!

C.O.: Unfortunately it's a must. Will you pass me the cage?

P.: It's impossible. I can't leave my parrot here!

C.O.: Calm down. I hope the inspection will not take too long.

P.: I fully disagree with your Customs rules.

C.O.: You are free to agree or disagree. How old is your parrot?

P.: I inherited it from my great grandfather. It's nearly 100 years old.

C.O.: Are you exaggerating?

P.: No, not in the least.

C.O.: Then you don't need to show it to the vet inspector.

P.: Why?

C.O.: Don't you know that in accordance with the Customs regulations you are prohibited from taking antiques out of the country?
