A How often have you heard that old saying that for young people “the world is their oyster”?

B You’re right, there are lots of options in life, but there are also all kinds of problems with making choice and putting all the ideas into practice.

A What do you have in mind?

B Lots of things: how to choose the right career for you, how to get accepted by a university where you can go to study your specific subject and finally where you can work after you finish your course.

A Well, people say that there are more than 2000 professions in the world. So how do I know which one of these is suitable for you? It’s so crucial that you study your favourite subject or else going to work will feel like a punishment. I’d like to be a designer of the latest women’s styles. But nowadays it’s so difficult to get a place at university.

B I know, and the University of Technology and Design is a prestigious place to study.

A I think the first step is to establish myself at a college that has a special interest in fashion design.

B Yes, this career is in great demand today and it pays well. If you make good quality, fashionable clothes, then customers will keep coming back to you.

A This type of job is quite appealing and it opens doors for your own creativity. There is such a sense of satisfaction when you actually make something yourself.

B Oh, I know, but whatever you decide to do, remember that you must work hard to get that job. Nowadays, on the whole, I think that we come across a lot of amateurs in life.

A So what? We’ll be professionals.

B Oh yes indeed, and we’ll be in great demand. I’ll study at the Faculty of Law and I am going to put a lot of effort in and give a great deal of my attention to subjects like history, foreign languages and law. Everyone always needs a good lawyer, don’t they?

А Как часто вы слышали несколько стёртую фразу: «Молодым везде у нас дорога!..»?

Б Да, дорог (путей) в жизни много, но и проблем всевозможных с их выбором и осуществлением немало.

А Что вы имеете в виду?

Б Многое: как правильно выбрать профессию, как поступить в учебное заведение, где бы можно было изучить избранную специальность, наконец, где работать после окончания учёбы…

А Да, говорят, что в мире существует более 2000 профессий. Какая из них твоя? Очень важно, занимаешься ты любимым делом или «отбываешь наказание» на работе… Я хотела бы стать модельером верхней женской одежды. Но сейчас так трудно поступить в вуз…

Б Да, университет технологии и дизайна – престижное учебное заведение.

А В качестве первого этапа меня устроил бы и колледж, где есть специальность «модельер».

Б Пожалуй, эта профессия сегодня востребована и она хорошо оплачивается. Если делаешь хорошие, модные вещи, то клиенты всегда найдутся.

А В этой профессии привлекательно и то, что она открывает перспективы для творчества. Так интересно придумывать что-то самой!

Б Верно. Но что бы человек ни выбрал, нужно много трудиться, если хочешь стать профессионалом. Мне думается, что в нашей жизни в целом сегодня много дилетантизма.

А Итак, будем профессионалами?!

Б Да, и будем востребованы. Я буду поступать на юридический факультет, поэтому сейчас много сил и внимания уделяю таким предметам, как история, иностранный язык, право. Ведь компетентные юристы всегда нужны.
