VI. B. Read the text Greenwich and then discuss it

In the 18tft century Greenwich was only a riverside village near London. Today it is part of London and you can get there by the river Thames, on special regular cruises from Westminster, Charing Cross, and Tower Piers. Greenwich has the oldest London park - Royal Park, as well as being home to magnificent buildings designed by Sir Christopher Wren.

One of the most important places in Greenwich is the National Maritime Museum. Its exhibitions explain how and why Britain became a leading sea power, and present the two main figures in its history: Lord Nelson and Captain James Cook. Video presentations of modern ships and huge paintings presenting historic battles all help you trace the development of Britain's sea history.
