Let's talk about environmental problems. Has Belarus suffered from any catastrophe?

OK,..., let's talk about environmental problems.

So, you know, nowadays there are a lot of factories, atomic stations, big ships and cars that pollute the environment. I mean they pollute the air we breathe, the water we drink and the soil where we grow our food.

As for Belarus it suffered a lot in April 1986 when the Chernobyl tragedy happened.

There was an explosion at the atomic station. As a result about 18 per cent of the territory of Belarus was polluted with radioactive substances.

Many people got ill with cancer. The worst thing is that the problem will last for many years as the period of half-life of cesium -137 is 33 years.

Do you agree that air pollution is a cause of people's health problems? Why?

Yes, I agree that air pollution is a cause of people's health problems because with the air harmful substances get into our lungs, then into our blood and so on and so force...

Imagine you are interviewing an animal protection activist. What questions would you ask him/ her?

I think I’ll ask him the following questions.

1. The first q-n: Do you love animals?

2. The second q-n: Have you got a pet?

3. The third q-n: How many animals have you saved?

Give advice on how to become more environment-friendly.

I think I’ll give the following advice.

· Please, don’t leave garbage while camping! Don’t break trees!

· Take part in flash mobs to protect nature!

Are you for or against animal experimentation? Why?

I’m against animal experimentation because I take pity on animals. Though I realize of course that people need new drugs. And they must be tested.

23. Let's talk about weather and climate

1.Let's talk about weather and climate. What is happening to weather andclimate nowadays?

OK,..., let's talk aboutweather and climate.

Weather is a very popular topic to discuss. We are all concerned about the weather.

Every morning we get up and ask the same question: “What’s the weather like today? Is it raining or maybe snowing? Is it cold?” And so on.

Then we look at the thermometer to see the temperature. And in the end we make our final choice of clothes.

Or if it is Sunday and you’ve arranged to have a picnic with your family or your friends – bad weather can spoil it.

So, you see weather is very important for everybody.

Now some words about climate. In our country we have a moderately continental climate. It means not very cold winters and not very hot summers. I’m quite satisfied with our climate and wouldn’t like to live in another place.

Are you weather dependent?

No, I’m notweather dependent but my granny is. She often has headaches when it is windy or it is very hot.

What questions would you ask a meteorologist?

I think I’ll ask him the following questions:

1. The first q-n: Is it difficult to forecast weather?

2. The second q-n What is the forecast for tomorrow?

3. The third q-n: Are you often mistaken when forecasting weather?

What can you advise a person who is going to have a camping holiday?

I think I’ll give him the following advice:

· Find out the weather forecast for the weekend!

· Don’t forget to take an umbrella in case it rains!

· Have a good holiday!

5. They say there's no bad weather, there are bad clothes. What do you think about it? I fully agree with the saying. We must think carefully about our clothes and footwear before going out and then we won’t have any problems with colds or spoiled mood.
