CONTRACTS

Цель: изучить лексические и речевые структуры для устной и письменной коммуникации на английском языке, развить навыки работы с профессиональным текстом, научить студентов аргументировано формулировать мысль на английском языке в устной и письменной форме, участвовать в обсуждении тем, связанных с профессиональной деятельностью, пользоваться специальной терминологией, уметь вести деловую переписку для профессиональных целей.

Теоретическая часть

Данный лексический материал предназначен для знакомства и овладения специальными терминами, активному использованию предлагаемых слов и словосочетаний, подготовки к чтению, переводу и обсуждению текстов профессиональной направленности.

Discussing contract form

A: Good afternoon, Mr. Edwards. It's so nice to see you again. Come in, please sit down.

B: Good afternoon, Mr. Forester. I'm also very pleased to see you. How are you doing?

A: Not bad, thank you. And how are you?

B: Very good, thank you.

A: I'm glad to hear that. Have you studied our contract form, Mr. Edwards?

B: Yes, I have studied it. And before we get down to business, I should say, that your goods are undoubtedly of high quality. Our technical specialists drew the conclusion that they are up to world standards.

A: Yes, that is why they are in great demand on the world market.

B: I would like to discuss the commercial side of our deal and the first thing to clarify is the prices.

A: You don't find them attractive, do you?

B: Yes, actually, we are going to buy a rather big consignment. So could you find it possible to reduce the price?

A: Well, I don't think we will agree to reduce the price, you know we are heavy with orders. But I think we could give a discount of 7 % on your purchase. Does it suit you?

B: Oh, that would be great, I think. But I must get in touch with my company. The next point to discuss is the terms of delivery.

A: Would you like to receive your purchase in parts?

B: Yes, if it is possible we would like to receive the first part after signing the contract, the second one at the end of the next month.

B: Oh, payment for collection suits us.

A: What about the other terms of the contract, do they suit you?

B: Yes, all the rest is OK.

A: Well, if your company agrees to these terms let's meet tomorrow at 11.30 and sign the contract.

B: I'll hope we'll make this bargain. See you tomorrow Mr. Forester.

A: See you tomorrow Mr. Edwards.

Crude Oil Assays

Statoil is the world’s third largest exporter of crude oil and the leading producer of North Sea crude. We can offer a variety of crudes from a range of more than twenty. Most of the crudes marketed by Statoil are premium, light, sweet grades.

Azeri Light is a light, low sulphur crude oil.

Region: Asia

Quality: API between 30-40

Dalia is a medium density, low sulphur crude oil.

Region: Africa

Quality. API between 20-30

Ekofisk Blend is a light, low sulphur North Sea crude oil.

Region: Europe

Quality: API between 30-40

Grane is a heavy, high TAN North Sea crude oil

Region: Europe

Quality: API below 20

Hungo Blend is a medium density, medium sulphur crude oil.
