Modern life is impossible without travelling. Thousands of people travel every day either on business or for pleasure. They can travel by air, by rail, by see or by road. Travelling by air is the fastest and the most
convenient way, but it is the most expensive too. Travelling by train is more interesting. You can see interesting places of the country you are travelling through. Modern trains have very comfortable seats. There are also sleeping carriages and a dining carriage which make even the longest journey enjoyable.
Travelling by sea is very popular. On board of ship you can enjoy your trip. There are tennis and badminton grounds, a swimming-pool, a cinema and a dancing hall there. Some people prefer travelling by car. If you have your own car you may go to the Black Sea, where there are a lot of rest-houses, sanatoriums and tourist camps. In the daytime you can have a nice opportunity to play volleyball, swim in the warm water of the sea and sunbathe. In the evening you like to sit on the beach watching the sea and enjoying the sunset. Travelling helps to see to countries better, to know about customs and traditions, to meet people and make friends with them.

Cambridge

Cambridge is one of the best-known towns in the world thanks to its University. It is the second oldest university of Britain, which was founded in the 13th century. The University was only for men until 1871. In 1871 the first women’s college was opened. Nowadays almost all colleges are mixed. Nowadays the University has nearly 9,000 staff, 31 Colleges and 150 Departments, Faculties, Schools and other institutions. There, more than 18,000 students from all over the world study.

Oxford

Oxford University is the oldest and most famous university in Britain. It was founded in the middle of the 12th century, and by 1300 there were already 1,500 students. Nowadays there are over 20,000 students in Oxford and about 4000 teachers. Oxford University has a reputation of a privileged school. Many prominent political figures of the past and present times got their education at Oxford. The Oxford English Dictionary is well-known to students of English everywhere. The Oxford University and the Cambridge University are eternal rivals.

Chicago

Chicago is the center of the Midwest. It is located on Lake Michigan. This is a typical American city. Now it is one of the most populated cities in the USA. Chicago’s population is about 3 million people. In agglomeration of Chicago (Chicagoland – the city with its suburbs) over 9,500,000 people live. Like New York, Chicago is a city of skyscrapers. Chicago’s tallest buildings are the John Hancock Tower (or “Big John”, as they call it), the Standard Oil Building (“Big Stan”), and the Sears Tower, which is the second tallest building in the USA. There are a lot of parks on the area along Lake Michigan, the most famous of which are Grant Park, Millenium Park and Lincoln Park. Here are located over 30 beaches, the most popular of which is Lincoln Park Beach.

Los Angeles

Los Angeles is located in the south of the State of California, on the coast of the Pacific. First of all, it is known as the center of movie industry. The famous Hollywood is situated just here. A lot of movie stars live in or near Los Angeles. Los Angeles is a fashionable and luxurious place. The Beverly Hills area is famous for its beautiful mansions and high-priced shops. The city is not only a center of entertainment and tourism, but also a big center of manufacturing, finance, oil, and trade. The port of Los Angeles handles more cargoes than New York. Los Angeles’ highways are the busiest in North America. The traffic is so heavy, that the city has the dirtiest air in the USA.
