Нулевой артикль

Нулевой артикль с нарицательными существительные употребляется, когда говорится о чем-то в общем смысле.

Перед существительным во множественном числе	Horses are clever animals. (but: A horse is a clever ani­mal.)
Перед неисчисляемым существительным	Violet is my favourite colour, (b u t: A violet is my favourite flower.)
Перед существительным + номер	I have just opened my book at page 35.

dinner (в обобщенном смысле)	I was invited to dinner.
thedinner (в конкретном значении)	The dinner I was invited to was excellent.
a dinner (если есть определение)	We have just had a light dinner. I was invited to a dinner given to honour the Queen.

bed (в обобщенном смысле) hospital	I went to bed at midnight. — Я лег спать в полночь. Не went to hospital. — Он лег в больницу.
the bed(существительное становится исчисляемым и воспринимается как опреде­ленный предмет) the hospital	I went to the bed at midnight. — Я подошел к кровати в пол­ночь. Не went to the hospital. — Он пошел в больницу.
