My apartment

I live together with my parents in a new district in Smolensk. Our apartment is on the third floor of a big multi-storeyed modern building. There are three rooms, a kitchen and a bathroom in our apartment. We have all modern conveniences, such as hot and cold running water, gas, electricity, central heating and a telephone.

The living room is the largest one in our apartment. We sometimes have meals here and watch TV. The walls of our living room are light green. The curtains over the window match the walls. You can see a wall unit, a sofa, two armchairs, a table, a piano and a TV set in the room. There is a thick carpet on the floor. Two water-colours and an oil-painting hang on the walls. The table is in the middle of the room. There are some chairs round it. The wall unit is next to the door on the right. The sofa and the piano are near the opposite wall.

The bedroom is also rather big. There are two beds with a small table between them, a wardrobe and some chairs in this room.

The third room is my study. There is a desk, two book-cases and many book-shelves with lots of books there. Let me describe this study in detail. The writing-desk is rather big. To the right of the desk you can see a sofa and a small table with copies of some newspapers and magazines. The book-cases are on the other side of the desk. On the opposite wall there are many shelves. The book-cases are filled with books. There are many books on the shelves, too. These are mostly English text-book, books in history and fiction. I am fond of Russian literature and I like to read books by Gogol, Chekhov, Tolstoy. But sometimes when I am tired I pick up some detective story to relax. There is a carpet on the floor of my study. I spend much time in this room, reading, writing, getting ready for my classes.

Our kitchen is not large. We usually have our meals here. There is a gas-stove, a sink with two taps – for cold and hot water — and a refrigerator in the kitchen. We can also see a kitchen-table in the corner. In our bathroom we see a bath, a shower, a shelf for toilet articles and a towel-rack. I like my apartment very much, it is cosy and comfortable.
