Task I. Translate these short dialogues from Russian into English:

1. – Вы заполнили бланк декларации?

– Да, только что.

– Не забудьте подписать его и поставить дату.

2. – Чем могу Вам помочь?

– Мне необходимо позвонить в авиакомпанию и получить

информацию о прибытии самолета из Парижа.

– Пройдите в зал прибытия, пожалуйста. Вы сможете получить там

всю необходимую информацию.

3. – Не могли бы Вы поставить все Ваши вещи в рентген-аппарат.

– Но у меня только эта дорожная сумка и она уже проверена.

– Минуточку, сэр. Вы что-то уронили.

4. – Извините, инспектор, какие документы необходимы для того, чтобы

пройти таможенный контроль?

– Позвольте мне взглянуть, что у Вас есть. Возможно, у Вас есть все

необходимые документы.

Task II. Put these questions into reported speech.

Example: “Where are you from?” They asked me where I was from.

Task III. Put the dialogue into reported speech using “Customs officer said (asked) …”, “Passenger (tourist) answered …”.

Customs Officer: Good afternoon!

Foreign tourist: Good afternoon! I am leaving for Zurich after a two-week stay in your country. Could you tell me what documents I am to present for customs control?

Customs Officer: Passport and customs declarations – entry and exit declarations.

Foreign tourist: Here you are.

Customs Officer: In your declaration you stated 1700 dollars, a gold wedding ring, three paintings and two antique statuettes.

Foreign tourist: I collect works of Russian art. I bought the paintings at the art gallery and the statuettes were bought at an antique shop.

Customs Officer: Have you got permits for taking these works of art out of the country?

Foreign tourist: I have got a receipt at the gallery. This receipt bears the stamp “Allowed for taking out of the Russian Federation”. As regards the statuettes I have got only а cash receipt for this purchase.

Customs Officer: The receipt from the gallery is made out correctly and you may take these paintings abroad. As far as the antique statuettes are concerned, you should apply to the Ministry of Culture. If the art experts find it possible, they will give you a permit to take these statuettes out.

Foreign tourist: Thank you for your explanation. Tomorrow I will apply for a permit. Good-buy!

Task IV. Translate the following sentences into English.

1. Пассажир сказал, что он уже заполнил таможенную декларацию и сейчас ждет объявления о своем рейсе.

2. Таможенник обязан проверять багаж прибывающих и отъезжающих пассажиров.

3. Если пассажир не имеет предметов, подлежащих декларированию, он может идти через зеленый канал (коридор).

4. Пассажир прошел таможенный досмотр, паспортный контроль и вышел в зал отлета.

5. Если пассажир не задекларировал ограниченные к ввозу/вывозу предметы, ему придется заплатить штраф.

6. Все пункты декларации должны быть заполнены полностью и печатными буквами.
