Belarus is situated in the eastern part of Europe. Its area is 207 600 square kilometres. It borders on Latvia and Lithuania, on Russia, on the Ukraine and on Poland. The population of the country is about 10 million people. The territory of Belarus is divided into 6 regions: Brest, Vitebsk, Grodno, Gomel, Minsk and Mogilev. The capital of Belarus is Minsk.

Our native land is very beautiful with its blue lakes and ribbons of rivers edged with thick forests, with its endless fields, meadows and swamps, with its varied and plentiful animal and plant kingdom. There are some 3000 rivers flowing over the territory of Belarus. The longest rivers are the Dnieper, the Nieman, the Western Bug and the Western Dvina. There are over 10 000 lakes in Belarus. The largest of them is Lake Naroch. That’s why Belarus has often been referred to as the blue eyed country.

  More than a quarter of the country  is covered with forests. An ancient forest is on the border between Belarus and Poland. Belovezhskaya Pushcha is a national reservation.

3. To stay safe online we should be polite, should always check the security settings, we shouldn’t post our personal information. We shouldn’t post anything online that  we wouldn’t want people in real life to see. And if we see something online that worries or upsets us, we should tell an adult.

4. Safer Internet Day tries to help people to use the Internet correctly. It is organized to promote safe and responsible use of online technology and mobile phones.

   III. Let’s talk about Great Britain.

     The full name of the country is the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland. The United Kingdom is situated on the British Isles. The British Isles consist of two large islands, Great Britain and Ireland, and a great number of small islands. Their   total area is over 314 000 sq. km. The British Isles are separated from the European continent by the North Sea and the English Channel. The western coast of Great Britain is washed by the Atlantic Ocean and the Irish Sea. Northern Ireland occupies one third of the island of Ireland. It borders on the Irish Republic in the south. The island of Great Britain consists of three main parts: England, Wales and Scotland.

There are no high mountains in Great Britain. The Thames is the deepest and the longest of the British rivers. The warm currents of the Atlantic Ocean influence the climate of Great Britain. Winters are not severely cold and summers are rarely hot. The population of the United Kingdom is over 58 million people. The main nationalities are: English, Welsh, Scottish and Irish. In Great Britain there are a lot of immigrants from former British Asian and African colonies. Great Britain is a highly industrialized country. The main industrial centres are London, Birmingham, Manchester, Leeds, Liverpool, Glasgow and Bristol. The capital of the country is London. The United Kingdom is a parliamentary monarchy.

I. Text

1. This text is about a very close-knit family, who tried to save the Christmas tree as long as they could so that their beloved family member Clifton could see it and enjoy Christmas.

2. Reading (I абзац).  

3. Clifton was one of the Tuskegee Airmen and was responsible for maintaining the airplanes flying off to fight in World War II.

4. All the family members tried to save the Christmas tree as long as they could. Every day they took turns sweeping pine needles and moved the ornaments to the stronger branches on the tree. They managed to keep the tree till March. These facts show that all the family loved Clifton very much.

II. Listen to three teenagers talking about homework and answer the questions  below.

  1. - The first speaker dislike doing homework because it affects his family. They can`t  go  out with a family because he has to do his homework and it puts them in a bad mood.

2. - The second speaker have regrets about copying her homework at school and now she has problems with doing homework at college.

3. - It  develops our sense of logic. It makes you more intelligent and enhances your personality. It makes us more disciplined and ready for future working obligations.
