Функции причастия в предложении

В предложении Participle I может выступать в роли таких членов предложения: именной части составного именного сказуемого, части составного глагольного сказуемого, определения, обстоятельства (образа действия, времени, причины, сравнения, сопутствующих обстоятельств) и вводного члена предложения.

В предложении Participle II может выступать в роли таких членов предложения: именной части составного именного сказуемого, части составного глагольного сказуемого, определения, обстоятельства (времени, условия, сравнения, уступки) и вводного члена предложения.

Именная часть составного именного сказуемого	The effect of her words was terrifying.	In spite of himself, Val was impressed.
Часть составного глагольного сказуемого	Presently other footsteps were heard crossing the room below.	He stood surprised in front of his house.
Определение	The fence surrounding the garden is newly painted.	He answered through the locked door.
Обстоятельство
a) образа действия	She balanced herself on the curbstone and began to walk carefully, setting heel to toe, heel to toe, and counting her steps.
b) времени	Having reached the classroom, she became the object of many questions.	When questioned Annie had implied vaguely … that she was anxious about her brother-in-law.
c) причины	Having been a little in that line myself, I understood it!
d) сравнения	This was said, as if thinking aloud.	As if torn with inner conflict and indecision, he cried.
e) сопутствующих обстоятельств	Gwendolen was silent, again looking at her hands.
f) условия		It was a dreadful thing that he now proposed, a breach of the law which, if discovered, would bring them into the police court.
g) уступки		… her spirit, though crushed, was not broken.
Вводный член предложения	Generally speaking, I don’t like boys.	All things considered, we can hardly say that we have the means of measuring directly such changes.
