Bill Gates

The world's richest businessman and the founder and boss of Microsoft was born in Seattle, USA. When he was young, Mr. Gates wanted to be an economist. At age 15, he constructed a device to control traffic patterns in Seattle. He dropped out of Harvard in 1975 to spend his time writing programs. In 1977, he founded Microsoft to develop and produce DOS, his basic operating systems for computers. When in 1981 International Business Machines (IBM) adopted DOS for its line of personal computers, his company took a giant step forward. In his very first deal with IBM, to supply an operating system for the firm's personal computer, his fee was low but he got returns from each sale, and he had the right to license the product to other manufacturers. Microsoft is a success not because Mr. Gates is a good programmer, but because of his grasp of the economics of information. By age 35 a brilliant entrepreneur had become one of the wealthiest men in America.
